Scriven
Wizard, Order of Scribes
Scriven
Species
Gearforged
Appearance
Scriven has a slender, precision-crafted gearforged chassis of brushed steel and pale nickel-silver plating, each surface bearing faint tool marks from years of field repairs. Delicate copper filigree traces the seams of their joints like illuminated handwriting, glowing softly whenever they cast a spell. Their optical array consists of six sliding magnifying lenses mounted within a rotating brass housing, and each lens clicks into place with the finality of a judge delivering a sentence. Their left manipulator hand has been modified with fine, needle-tipped scribe tools instead of standard fingers, while their right hand remains surprisingly broad and gentle. They move with careful, nearly silent economy, except when agitated, when their inner gears begin ticking audibly. Their most contradictory feature is their immaculate, surgical construction paired with a dented, soot-blackened torso panel that they refuse to replace because it was damaged while saving trapped workers during their first independent expedition.
“Precise, measured, and lightly metallic, with pauses that sound like pages turning. Scriven favors formal diction, numbered explanations, and understated sarcasm.”

Distinguishing Features
Six rotating magnifying lenses in a brass optical housing.
A soot-blackened dent across the torso that Scriven refuses to repair.
A left hand replaced by needle-tipped scribe instruments.
Copper filigree that glows in response to arcane energy.
A faint ticking sound that grows faster when Scriven is angry or excited.
Voice
“A calm, carefully modulated alto with a faint resonance of brass and distant machinery.”
Clothing
A charcoal scholar's coat reinforced with stitched leather panels, a copper-threaded sash bearing Ebon Blueprint credentials, several magnifying visors, a weatherproof document case, and a short blue cloak lined with heat-resistant felt. Their garments are carefully patched but never fashionable.
Body Language
Scriven tilts their lens housing toward whoever is speaking, often rotating one lens independently to study facial expressions. Their needle fingers hover over invisible lines as if annotating the air. When offended, they become perfectly still except for a rapid, irritated ticking in their chest. When pleased, they subtly align nearby objects into precise parallel rows.
