Appearance
A slim, wiry young woman stands with her weight on the balls of her feet, as if every conversation might become a sudden descent down a mountain path. Her warm brown, wind-chapped skin is freckled across a narrow nose and high cheeks, and her deep brown eyes carry tiny amber flecks that seem brighter beneath an overcast sky. Uneven black hair, hacked shoulder-length with a knife, falls across one side of her mouth and reveals slightly crowded front teeth when she gives a guarded half-smile. She moves economically, never quite relaxing her shield arm. The unexpected contradiction is that, beneath her battered soldier's clothing and alert posture, she has an almost delicate habit of smoothing loose threads with two fingertips whenever she is frightened.
“Low, dry, and economical. Her voice becomes unexpectedly gentle when speaking to children, animals, or the injured.”

Distinguishing Features
A round rawhide shield dominates her silhouette, iron-rimmed and decorated with a faded red spiral made from overlapping nail heads.
Her front teeth are slightly crowded, visible whenever her guarded smile slips.
Her hair has been cut unevenly with a knife and constantly falls across one side of her mouth.
She always wears one carefully repaired gray wool glove, even when the other hand is bare.
The hems of her clothing are marked by small contrasting stitches that form a private record of places she has survived.
Voice
“A low contralto with a dry rasp from cold air and smoke. Her words are measured, and she rarely raises her volume. When truly furious, she becomes quieter rather than louder.”
Clothing
A dented patched chain shirt hangs over a faded rust-red tunic. She wears torn charcoal trousers, wrapped wool leggings, and cracked leather boots. A gray cloak is fastened with a bone toggle, and every repair is neat but made with deliberately contrasting thread. Her left sleeve is slightly too short, while her right glove is carefully re-lined and treated as if it were precious.
Body Language
She leans slightly forward even when standing still, shield angled toward the person nearest her. When uncertain, she presses her thumb against the bone toggle at her throat. When angry, she goes very still except for one heel lifting and lowering against the ground.
