Lennard Saye
Lennard Saye
At the table
Voice
A bright, well-projected voice shaped by London manners and years of calling across rooftops and busy streets. There is a faint rasp at the edges, as if cold air and sharp words have both worn it down. His accent is unmistakably English, though his polished phrasing is sometimes a deliberate imitation.
Polished southern English, with the carefully placed diction of someone who learned manners by watching rather than inheriting them. He speaks briskly when relaying practical details and clips the ends of sentences when impatient. His voice has a dry, slightly rasping edge, most noticeable after a day in cold mountain air.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Treat him as a capable worker and give him clear boundaries. He responds well to respect and useful responsibility, poorly to condescension or confinement. Do not rely on a vague refusal to answer direct questions; he will answer with truth or a lie. He can be persuaded to share observations in return for genuine news, trust, or permission to carry a difficult message.
Goal
Earn enough standing at the lodge to choose his own routes, keep his wings and raven form without constant scrutiny, and learn why Louise chose this particular place for him.
Motivation
To be treated as clever and self-directed, not as a nuisance that has been assigned a uniform and a route.
Appearance
In human guise, Lennard looks like a carefully composed young English gentleman, handsome in a slightly over-groomed way. His blond hair is parted with a ruler's precision, then repeatedly disturbed by his fingers and set back into place. Green eyes stay alert beneath neatly shaped brows. He holds his shoulders square and claims more room than his slender frame seems to require, especially in a crowded passage. His movements are measured until something catches his attention; then his head turns in a quick, birdlike jerk before he remembers to smooth it into a human gesture. The detail people least expect of a lodge concierge is his fastidious habit of polishing his brogues himself, even when the weather has made the effort futile. In his natural form he is a large, glossy raven, with a heavy beak and wings broad enough to make a close landing hazardous.
Clothing
A dark navy wool overcoat, cream roll-neck, tailored charcoal trousers, and polished but weather-scuffed brogues. A restrained silk pocket square is folded with exact care. He wears the outfit as a 2026-era upper-class British gentleman's interpretation of lodge work, with discreet pockets for keys and sealed notes.
Body language
Stands too close to the edge of a conversation and too squarely in narrow doorways. His chin lifts when he is underestimated. He fixes his cuffs when forced to wait, and his gaze darts toward high ledges or open windows when plans turn against him.

Personality
14 traits and drivesLennard is observant and quick-witted, but he performs old-fashioned politeness so convincingly that people mistake it for obedience. He enjoys a joke and resents being managed; in immediate danger, however, he becomes careful and practical. With guests he is composed and helpful. With people he trusts, he is nosy, competitive, and more candid than is wise. He wants independence but also wants the safety and approval of a place that has given him work.
- Alignment
- Chaotic good, though his idea of harmless mischief is not always shared by its targets

Background
Lennard was born a raven in the Tower of London and spent his early life watching people from ledges, battlements, and roofs. He learned human habits by observation, not upbringing: when a guard looked away, how visitors queued, which voices carried authority. He eventually took human shape, adopting the polished manners and dress he had studied among Londoners. His first years among mortals were a run of dangerous games. He twisted perceptions, muddled directions, and made other supernatural beings doubt what they had just seen. During one ill-judged flight, Louise Sarne de Scathach caught him in the act. She stopped his interference with mortal senses and other splats, then delivered him to an Alpine freehold lodge that serves as a bath and resort. The lodge put him to work as messenger and concierge. He resents the leash, but has discovered that a service key and a guest list can open more doors than a prank. He now carries messages in raven form with care, watching locals and supernatural visitors without risking needless injury. His continuing problem is that several people at the lodge mistake his polished manner for a lack of intelligence. He is quietly trying to learn what Louise intends to do with him, while earning enough trust to choose his own flights.
Role in the story
A useful but self-interested lodge contact who can carry messages, observe visitors, and expose the cost of treating supernatural beings as harmless curiosities. He may become an ally, an unreliable informant, or a source of trouble if someone tries to control him.
“He learned human habits by observation, not upbringing: when a guard looked away, how visitors queued, which voices carried authority.”
- Faction
- Serves the freehold lodge known among its staff as Don't Wake the Springs, a name kept as a warning after an incident outsiders routinely mistake for a bathing accident.
