Mara Venn
Rogue, Blackfin First Mate
Mara Venn
Species
Half-Elf
Appearance
Mara Venn has the compact, weather-hardened presence of someone who has slept more nights on wet deck planks than in a proper bed. Her cropped dark hair is clipped close at the sides, though a stubborn lock always curls over her left brow in damp weather. Her brown-gold eyes are alert enough to make every room feel measured, counting exits, hands, knives, and lies. Salt has roughened the skin around her knuckles, while her palms remain surprisingly soft from years of polishing wood and glass behind an inn counter. She moves with economical precision, never wasting a step, yet she has an incongruous habit of humming old children's counting songs when frightened. She leaves behind the scent of boiled coffee, lamp oil, and sea salt, and the impression that a locked door has just acquired a conscience.
“Low, clipped, and dryly humorous. Mara speaks with the steady rhythm of someone giving orders over surf and wind, using precise words until anger strips them down to blunt dockside phrases.”

Distinguishing Features
Silver rings cover every finger, each engraved with a tiny notch representing a sailor she has lost.
A pale cut runs from the corner of her mouth to her jaw, left by a broken bottle during a mutiny.
She wears a tarnished copper button sewn inside her coat, hidden beneath the lining.
Her left ear is slightly pointed and pierced with a small iron hook rather than an ornament.
She counts under her breath whenever someone hands her an empty cup.
Voice
“A husky contralto worn smooth by salt air, with a dry edge that can turn a simple question into a warning.”
Clothing
A dark green wool waistcoat over a cream linen shirt, reinforced trousers, soft-soled boots, and a weathered brown coat with hidden interior pockets. A stained innkeeper's apron covers a thin leather jerkin. Every finger bears a silver ring, though two are plain iron beneath the silver wash.
Body Language
Mara stands squarely behind the bar with both hands visible, fingers spread near the cups. When threatened, she lowers her chin and turns one shoulder toward the nearest exit. Her silver-ringed hands are constantly in motion, aligning tankards, tapping ledgers, or touching the concealed pommel of her cutlass.
