Master Nereus Tide-Caller
Species
Water Genasi
Appearance
Master Nereus Tide-Caller is an elderly, imposing water genasi man whose deep oceanic-blue skin seems to contain slow-moving tides. Faint pale currents drift beneath his surface like moonlight seen through deep water. His long silver hair is tied into a severe naval queue, though individual strands continually lift as if touched by an unseen breeze. His left eye is clouded milky white and hidden beneath a simple black leather eyepatch marked by a faint burn scar from the First Abyssal Breach. He moves with a pronounced limp and leans on a carved driftwood quarterstaff fitted with a polished brass plumb-bob, yet his posture becomes unnervingly straight whenever someone lies. His hands are broad, scarred, and permanently wrinkled like a sailor's after hours in seawater. The unexpected contradiction is that his fearsome, fortress-like presence is occasionally undercut by the soft chime of tiny shells sewn into the hem of his coat, each one taken from a life he failed to save.
“His voice is low, dry, and resonant, with the muffled authority of orders shouted through storm winds. He pauses before important nouns, as if weighing their cost, and pronounces names with unusual care.”

Distinguishing Features
Clouded milky-white left eye beneath a burn-marked black eyepatch.
Deep blue skin threaded with faint luminous currents.
A brass plumb-bob mounted in his driftwood staff.
A salt-white scar running from his left temple to the base of his neck.
Tiny memorial shells sewn into the hem of his coat.
His shadow sometimes appears to ripple like water even on dry stone.
Voice
“A deep, weathered baritone with a dry rasp, like rope dragged across wet stone. His commands are quiet but carry across crowded lecture halls.”
Clothing
A heavy salt-stiffened navy coat with tarnished silver clasps, slate-grey academic robes, reinforced leather boots, a faded red officer's sash, fingerless gloves, and a black eyepatch. His coat lining is embroidered with tiny wave charts and casualty figures.
Body Language
He stands nearly motionless when listening, with his staff planted like a surveyor's marker. The brass plumb-bob swings whenever he is irritated. He angles his blind side toward people he distrusts and turns his face fully toward anyone telling the truth.
