Bram Eadric
Bram Eadric
At the table
Voice
A young man's voice with a low, slightly rough edge, shaped by hauling and calling over warehouse noise in his former life. It catches on certain unfamiliar words, and his new chest resonance still seems to surprise him. When angry, he gets more emphatic and quick, with consonants struck hard; when exhausted, his speech becomes spare and flat.
His local speech is fluent, but his sentences retain a warehouse worker's clipped practicality. He pauses to choose words when describing his body or feelings, and uses concrete terms such as weight, space, and balance. When alarmed, his words come out faster and more forcefully, not softer.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Bram is cautious with strangers but can be won over through practical honesty and respect for the Seven's boundaries. Offer him a clear task and he becomes dependable. Do not treat his body change as a joke or demand that he explain feelings he has not sorted out. If he begins speaking for Aino, a calm reminder of the group's boundary gives him a chance to correct himself.
Goal
Help the Seven establish a safe, dependable foothold in Wessex while finding a way to understand his changed body and uncertain church-grim heritage.
Motivation
To make himself useful enough that the Seven can rely on him without requiring him to pretend he is unafraid or fully adjusted.
Appearance
Bram has the handsome, open-browed face of a young local man, though his guarded expression makes him seem older when he is still. His skin is weather-browned and roughened at the knuckles; his dark hair grows in uneven curls, and new facial hair shadows his jaw in patches he keeps rubbing as if to check it is real. He has grown taller than his old sense of himself can comfortably account for, and still misjudges door lintels and the reach of his arms. He moves with a warehouse worker's practiced economy, shoulders angled to protect the space behind him, then goes absolutely motionless when listening. His coat is too short in the sleeves and carefully patched at both elbows, while a small, improbably neat cloth flower is stitched inside the collar, where only someone helping him dress might see it.
Clothing
A plain brown wool coat with sleeves slightly too short, a linen shirt, a leather belt, sturdy hose, and scuffed boots. He repairs tears with thick, visible stitches and keeps the collar’s small cloth flower carefully clean.
Body language
He plants himself where he can see an entrance, feet set as if bracing a loaded cart. His hands hover near straps and door bars rather than weapons. When startled by his own strength or a sudden feeling, he flexes his fingers, then deliberately lets them rest open. Around Aino, he often begins to step between her and a perceived danger, catches himself, and shifts to stand beside her instead.

Distinguishing features
Personality
15 traits and drivesReserved and watchful, Bram would rather solve a problem with a carried load or a barred door than discuss it. His loyalty is fierce, but fear can disguise itself as control in him, particularly when Aino is at risk. He is patient with frightened people and abrupt with anyone who treats the group as expendable. When rested, he can be unexpectedly wry and quietly curious; when hungry or startled by his own anger, he becomes blunt and needs time to choose his words. He is not ashamed of being a man, but remains shocked by how much of daily life now feels physically unfamiliar.

Combat
AC 12 · HP 8 · 30 ft.Bram is a non-specialist watchkeeper, not a trained warrior. He uses a quarterstaff to discourage attackers, protects a retreat, and blocks narrow approaches while allies act. He avoids chasing enemies or fighting alone. If the group is threatened, his first instinct is to put himself between danger and the others, especially Aino, but he is working to ask what help is wanted rather than assuming.

Background
Before the displacement, Bram was a woman who worked long shifts moving crates through a warehouse, learning to judge weight by the sound a load made when it settled. The Seven were her adventuring companions and mutual-aid circle; when the group was torn from their former life and woke in Wessex, she awoke in the body of a handsome young man with local features and fluent local speech. The change left her disoriented, grieving, and curious in ways she does not yet know how to name. She now understands herself as a man, and the group treats him as one, but neither fact has made the bodily shock disappear. Height, strength, hunger, facial hair, a lower voice, anger that rises with startling speed, and unfamiliar sexual appetite all arrive as lived sensations rather than explanations. In Wessex he became the group's porter and watchkeeper, useful at doors, roads, and camp perimeters. A strange kinship with churchyard guardian spirits has surfaced alongside his instinctive attention to dogs and thresholds. Once, after a dog refused to enter a village burial ground, Bram felt a cold tug toward a freshly disturbed grave. He told the others only part of what he sensed. His strongest tie is to Aino, whom he protects fiercely. The Seven have told him plainly that protection must not become control; he is trying to learn the difference without pretending the warning did not hurt.
Role in the story
A dependable porter and sentry whose supernatural instincts may uncover a threat tied to Wessex's churchyards. His personal arc turns on learning that loyalty means standing with Aino and the Seven, not making decisions for them.
“The change left her disoriented, grieving, and curious in ways she does not yet know how to name.”
- Faction
- The Seven at the Smoke-Bend, a displaced adventuring party and mutual-aid circle.
