At the table
“I can give you three possibilities, none of them a verdict.”
Voice
A young man's voice with a slightly dry, papery rasp, as if years of dust and careful speech have settled in it. He tends to breathe through his nose while thinking, and a faint warmth sometimes roughens his exhale near a fire. When irritated, his words grow faster and more sharply articulated rather than softer.
He speaks in measured, regionally local German, with the familiar Saxon cadence of the young body he inhabits. His phrasing is exact and often dryly comic; he marks uncertainty aloud instead of smoothing it over. Under pressure his consonants become clipped and his sentences turn into lists. The voice is physically young, but his careful pauses and curator's vocabulary make him sound older than his face suggests.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Begin with a practical question and give him time to answer. He responds well to people who distinguish evidence from rumor and poorly to anyone demanding that he reveal the group's records. Earn trust by respecting his caution and offering useful information in return.
Goal
Keep the Seven's evidence intact, establish what happened to the displaced, and find a way to understand the Firedrake's influence without surrendering himself to it.
Motivation
To make a dependable record in a world where his own past sounds impossible, while resisting the dragon's instinct to hoard what the group needs.
Appearance
A striking young man with a long, attentive face and the composed, appraising look of someone waiting for an exhibit to betray its label. He moves with a measured, heel-first walk, favoring the right side when tired, then goes unnervingly still to study a detail. His most noticeable possession is a small brass lens case, worn smooth at one corner where his thumb worries it. The unexpected thing about him is how carefully he tends a tiny charcoal brazier: he handles its soot-stained tools with the reverence of a conservator, not the indifference of a scholar.
Clothing
A practical wool coat and layered linen in local, muted colors, carefully mended at the elbows. He keeps a narrow document wrap beneath the coat and wears gloves when handling fragile objects, though they are often smudged with soot.
Body language
He angles his shoulders toward whatever he is assessing and holds his head slightly forward, as if reading a label at arm's length. His right hand often rests on the worn corner of his lens case. Near an open flame, his attention catches and stays there a beat too long; when embarrassed by this, he deliberately turns away.

Distinguishing features
Personality
14 traits and drivesMethodical and dryly funny, Siegfried is difficult to impress but not difficult to move. He distrusts grand claims and will patiently help someone who admits uncertainty. In danger he becomes brisk and protective; when calm, he can seem almost clinical. Shortages bring out a possessive streak he dislikes in himself, while acts of generosity can make him abruptly, awkwardly generous in return.
- Alignment
- Neutral, with a strong instinct for mutual aid that competes with a growing, unsettling possessiveness.

Possessions
Background
Before displacement, Siegfried Falk curated a small museum collection and spent clear nights making amateur photographs of the sky. He liked objects because they could be examined without asking him to trust their owners. Then he woke near the Harz Mountains in Saxony, in a young local body whose face and accent belonged to the region. He had no camera, familiar equipment, or reliable way to prove his former life. The first night, he tried to map the stars from memory and learned how little he could reconstruct without instruments. That failure changed his confidence into a habit of recording uncertainty as carefully as fact. He joined the displaced adventuring party and mutual-aid circle called the Seven at the Smoke-Bend, becoming its recorder, researcher, and keeper of evidence. He now tracks the group's testimony, artifacts, and debts while trying to keep their records from being seized by curious authorities. His body carries the Firedrake, a greedy, ever-burning pitch-black dragon whose influence has begun to make him run warm and notice flame and soot with uncomfortable intimacy. He is loyal to the group, but increasingly resents every ration spent without his approval.
Role in the story
The group's memory and skeptic, preserving evidence that could clarify the displacement or expose a powerful claimant. His growing hoarding instinct creates an intimate conflict inside the mutual-aid circle, while the Firedrake's signs suggest a danger he cannot yet explain.
