Kilda Iron-Ledger
Species
Dwarf
Appearance
Kilda is a stout, broad-shouldered dwarf whose compact frame seems built to brace against collapsing tunnels. Fine manufacturing calluses web her palms and fingers, while old burns stipple her knuckles like pale copper filings. She moves with short, decisive steps and rarely turns her whole body when a glance will do. Her face is square and weathered, with a flattened nose, a crescent scar beneath her left eye, and brows permanently angled as though every object in the room has been miscounted. The unexpected softness is in her hands: despite their scars, she handles paper, bandages, and frightened recruits with astonishing gentleness. She leaves behind an impression of warm bread, hot iron, and the unsettling certainty that she has already noticed what everyone else missed.
“Low, brisk, and exact, with a rough musical cadence shaped by years of speaking over machinery. Kilda rarely raises her volume.”

Distinguishing Features
A crescent scar beneath the left eye from a snapped caliper spring.
A left thumb joint that clicks audibly when she is suspicious.
A braided iron wire woven through her beard at the chin, taken from the Ashfall rescue winch.
A brass tally-counter engraved with the names of six dead miners.
Her shadow often falls slightly out of alignment with her body near active sabotage sites, an unexplained and purely atmospheric custom feature.
Voice
“A low contralto with a dry, metallic rasp, like a saw moving steadily through hard timber. Her laughter is sudden, bright, and startlingly young.”
Clothing
A heavily reinforced quartermaster's apron of black leather and layered canvas hangs over a charcoal wool tunic, with brass tally-counters, measuring calipers, wax seals, chalk stubs, spare buckles, and tiny labeled pouches fastened across it. Her soot-stained leather work gloves are reinforced at the palms, and her boots have iron heels designed to ring against stone.
Body Language
Kilda plants both boots wide when challenged, rests one gloved thumb against a tally-counter when thinking, and angles her head toward faint noises as if the fortress itself were speaking. When angry, she stops moving entirely except for the slow tightening of her jaw.
