Appearance
Nkiru stands with the composed stillness of someone waiting for a verdict, her weight balanced over the balls of her feet and her saber held low enough to seem harmless. She has a narrow, expressive face and a long neck marked by a faint line of pale birthmarks that resemble tiny linked commas. Within a minute of meeting her, people notice that her eyes rarely settle on faces. She studies door hinges, rooflines, fountain drains, loose stones, and the hands of anyone speaking. In a crowded room she occupies remarkably little space, yet everyone seems to make room for her without realizing it. Her movements are elegant and economical, except when she laughs, when her shoulders jerk upward and her entire posture briefly becomes awkward and young. She gives the impression of a portrait that has stepped out of its frame, cool and immaculate at first glance, but visibly tired around the mouth.
“Low, clear, and carefully paced. She pronounces names exactly as given, pauses before important nouns, and becomes almost ceremonially formal when angry.”

Distinguishing Features
Her gaze constantly maps exits, hands, and elevated positions rather than faces.
She folds every sheet of paper into a precise eight-panel pattern before storing it.
A small string of blue glass beads is braided into the end of her sash, clicking softly when she walks.
She laughs at the wrong moment when startled, then covers her mouth with both hands.
Her immaculate coat always carries a faint scent of rainwater and crushed mint.
Voice
“A low contralto with a dry, measured warmth. In danger her voice becomes softer rather than louder, forcing others to lean in and listen.”
Clothing
A deep indigo traveling coat with a high collar, close-fitted charcoal trousers, soft leather boots, and a pale blue sash holding writing tubes. Her coat is lined with waxed cloth to protect documents from rain. One sleeve is embroidered with tiny silver squares, making it look almost ceremonial despite its practical cut.
Body Language
She keeps her shoulders square and her hands visible, often pinching the corner of a folded paper between two fingers. When lying, she stands perfectly still. When telling the truth, one heel taps a slow rhythm against the ground.
