Appearance
Sahsah is a slight young woman with a narrow waist, small hips, and an easy, balanced posture that makes her look almost weightless when she walks. Her light skin has a warm ivory tone, with faint sun freckles scattered over her shoulders and collarbones. Her large hazel eyes are soft and attentive, but they become startlingly still when she hears a lie. Her face is cute rather than conventionally severe, with a small rounded chin and a mouth that often seems on the verge of apologizing. Her thick black hair falls in loose waves to her waist, usually gathered behind one shoulder with a plain cord. She moves with careful economy, as if every gesture has been rehearsed underwater. The unexpected contradiction is that her hands are visibly rough and work-worn, with cracked knuckles and darkened fingertips from years of handling rope, salt, and lampblack, while the rest of her appearance suggests a sheltered court musician.
“Her voice is low, breathy, and sibilant, with soft sh and th sounds shaped by the harbor dialect of Qasr al-Mih. She speaks clearly but leaves small pauses before important words.”

Distinguishing Features
Her breathing is almost noiseless when calm, but turns audibly measured and deliberate when she is afraid.
She has a small crescent-shaped birthmark at the center of her left palm, usually hidden when she closes her hand.
The hems of her clothing are repaired with blue thread in tiny, evenly spaced stitches that resemble written notation.
She smiles warmly at strangers yet becomes visibly guarded and exacting around relatives.
She carries herself like a court dancer despite having spent most of her life doing manual labor.
Voice
“A low, breathy contralto with a gentle sibilant texture. Her Levantine and coastal Bantu-influenced cadence gives ordinary phrases a measured, tidal rhythm. She rarely raises her volume, and when she is furious she becomes almost whisper-quiet.”
Clothing
A close-fitting sleeveless wrap of dove-gray linen crosses high over her chest and leaves her shoulders, upper arms, and a strip of midriff bare. The fabric is carefully darned in pale blue thread, while the left side fits slightly too loosely because it was cut from an older garment. A deep teal sash holds the wrap in place, and a long soft skirt is split for walking. Her most cared-for item is a tiny square of cream cloth sewn inside the collar, washed and mended far more often than the rest of her clothing.
Body Language
She keeps her shoulders relaxed and her hands visible. When calm, she rocks faintly from heel to toe as though listening to distant surf. When rattled, she presses two fingers beneath her jaw to monitor her own pulse and breathes through her nose in exact four-count cycles.
