Species
Human
Appearance
Korran Vane is a striking human man in his mid-fifties whose elegance seems sharpened for use as a weapon. His iron-gray hair is slicked back from a high brow, though one stubborn lock curls over his left temple whenever the air turns damp. Slate-blue eyes watch from beneath heavy lids, measuring exits, hands, and loyalties before settling on a face. His skin carries the weathered bronze of a lifelong sailor, broken by pale salt scars at the throat and knuckles. He moves with a dancer's economy across pitching decks, never bracing himself even when others stumble. His clothes smell faintly of clove oil, wet rope, and expensive smoke. The unexpected softness is in his hands, which are carefully manicured and almost delicate, except for the rigid first knuckle of his right index finger, broken and badly reset long ago.
“His voice is low, cultured, and precise, carrying the polished warmth of a noble host over the dry rasp of a man who has swallowed too much sea air. He rarely raises it.”

Distinguishing Features
A platinum broken-anchor signet ring worn on the right hand.
A pale salt scar running from his left ear to the collarbone.
A missing lower left canine replaced with a narrow sliver of black pearl.
A habit of wearing tinted crystal lenses even indoors during moments of emotional strain.
His shadow sometimes appears to sway like a reflection on water when he stands near relics from the drowned observatory.
Voice
“Measured, velvet-smooth, and faintly rasping, with the controlled cadence of a courtier who learned to speak over wind and surf.”
Clothing
A tailored, high-collared deep-indigo velvet coat embroidered with nearly invisible silver wave motifs, pearl-gray waistcoat, black sea boots with concealed blades, gloves of soft sharkskin, and a platinum signet ring bearing the Consortium's broken-anchor seal. Tinted crystal lenses hang from a silver chain at his breast pocket to protect his eyes from sea glare.
Body Language
Korran stands with one hand resting lightly on his signet ring and the other hidden behind his back. He turns his head before his eyes, as though giving every room time to reveal itself. When pleased, he smooths one cuff. When frightened, he becomes perfectly still, and the faint tapping of his right thumb begins against his palm.
