Renau Makanzi
Engineer and Expedition Gunner
Renau Makanzi
Species
Human
Appearance
Renault is a compact, weather-hardened human with a long-backed posture that makes him seem taller when he is angry and smaller when he is tired. He walks with his left foot placed carefully, heel first, as though every floor might conceal a loose board. His hands are broad and permanently darkened around the nails by oil, graphite, and ground brass. A narrow strip of polished copper is woven into his beard, not as decoration but to keep the beard from catching in machinery. He wears round smoked lenses when working, yet removes them to read faces with unsettling directness. His movements are economical and nearly silent until he becomes excited, at which point he begins circling objects as if he is trying to find their hidden gear teeth. The unexpected contradiction is that his rough traveler's clothing and gunpowder-stained hands conceal an immaculate white shirtfront, changed every morning regardless of weather or expense.
“Low, precise, and mildly hoarse, with clipped phrases during danger and long technical explanations when relaxed. He pauses before answering personal questions, then redirects toward schedules, supplies, or mechanical problems.”

Distinguishing Features
His left-foot-first gait makes each step look deliberately tested.
A polished copper strip is braided into his short beard.
He wears a spotless white shirtfront beneath clothing stained with grease and road dust.
Before speaking, he gives a soft double click with his tongue, like a tool being tested against a gear.
His right thumbnail is flattened from years of pressing tiny springs into locking mechanisms.
Voice
“A low, dry baritone with a faint rasp, like paper dragged across unfinished wood. His laughter is surprisingly bright and arrives in short bursts, usually when someone makes an unexpectedly sensible observation.”
Clothing
A sand-colored travel coat reinforced inside with leather strips, a spotless white shirt, dark green waistcoat, patched charcoal trousers, soft riding boots, brass-rimmed smoked spectacles, and a wide belt carrying calipers, chalk, wire, oil, and powder tools.
Body Language
He leans slightly toward his left side and keeps one hand near a tool pouch even during friendly conversation. When listening, he tilts his head toward the speaker without blinking for several seconds. Before firing, he becomes perfectly still except for a slow exhale through his nose.
