Hask Malevanor
Species
Half-elf mummy
Appearance
Hask Malevanor is a tall, narrow half-elf mummy whose body seems assembled from deliberate contrasts. His funerary wrappings are layered in yellowed linen, blackened silk, and strips of newer white cloth that have been repaired so often they resemble stitched parchment. Between the bandages, his skin is dark, dry, and lacquered like old cedar rubbed with oil. He moves with a measured, almost courtly gait, placing each foot heel-first and keeping his left shoulder perfectly still. When he waits, he leans slightly forward as though listening to someone buried beneath the floor. The impression is not of a shambling corpse, but of a patient administrator who has simply outlived his body. The unexpected element is his hands: despite their desiccation, he keeps them immaculately manicured, with each blackened nail painted a tiny crescent of vermilion.
“Hask speaks in a low, dry baritone with careful Karrnathi diction. His voice has a soft, unexpected lilt on the final syllable of important names, as if reciting a private liturgy.”

Distinguishing Features
His left shoulder remains unnervingly still while the rest of his body moves with careful precision.
The ends of his wrappings are secured with tiny bronze clips engraved with the names of dead soldiers.
His vermilion-painted nails contrast sharply with his desiccated hands.
He smells faintly of preserving pine, iron, and winter incense.
His eyes are deep-set pools of ember-red light that brighten when he hears a true name spoken.
Voice
“A restrained, resonant baritone that sounds like dry linen pulled across a wooden coffin lid. His consonants are precise, his pauses deliberate, and his rare laughter comes out as a soft clicking exhale.”
Clothing
Blood-red priest robes hang over his wrappings in heavy, pleated layers. The robe is embroidered with black thread depicting veins, roots, and tiny open eyes. A narrow bronze belt carries ritual knives, sealing wax, and a row of labeled bone vials. When outside the monastery, he wears a charcoal cloak with a deep hood and an inner lining stitched with the names of deceased Karrnathi soldiers.
Body Language
Hask rarely gestures broadly. He tilts his head by precise degrees, folds his hands over his staff, and lets the long ends of his wrappings settle before answering. In anger, he becomes utterly motionless except for the faint tightening of his painted fingers. When expressing compassion, he kneels despite the audible crackle of his joints, bringing his face level with the living.
