Fenn Kallio
Fenn Kallio
At the table
Voice
His voice has a rounded, slightly grainy warmth, shaped by years of calling lines across noisy rooms and by the dry rasp of long journeys. He places consonants cleanly so people at the back can follow, then lets a joke tumble forward with an easy, breathy chuckle.
He speaks in clear, friendly phrases shaped by years of projecting over market noise and wagon wheels. His humor comes quickly, but his words become spare and concrete when someone is in danger.

How to play them
Meet the party with warmth, a practical offer, and a harmless story. Learn who is frightened or being overlooked before sharing the clue. If the party shows care for ordinary people, he becomes a candid ally; if they treat suffering as a curiosity, he challenges them with questions rather than accusations.
Goal
Find Edda and determine why she was investigating the flooded settlement, while ensuring the adventurers reach the place described by his clue.
Motivation
To make sure the forgotten are remembered as people, not merely as subjects in a museum case.
Appearance
Fenn is a small, age-bent halfling whose soft cheeks and bright attention make him seem at first like a genial grandfather. His skin has the warm, finely creased texture of old parchment; his silver hair lies in unruly wisps beneath a felt cap. His eyes keep traveling to doorways, windows, and the hands of anyone who looks frightened, rather than settling on the most important person in a room. He smells faintly of beeswax, damp wool, and the sharp anise lozenges he carries for singers. He walks with a rolling, practiced rhythm, as if every floor might become a stage.
Clothing
A plum-colored travel coat patched at both elbows, a mustard waistcoat with deep pockets, soft boots, and a felt cap pinned with a tiny wooden gull. His costume pieces are carefully mended, though the hems are stained by road mud.
Body language
His hands keep time against a cane, knee, or tabletop. He angles his body toward the least confident person present, and his gaze repeatedly checks the room's exits without interrupting conversation.

Personality
11 traits and drivesFenn is genuinely pleasant, patient, and generous, but his friendliness is not passivity. He can tease a room into laughter when spirits are low, then become unexpectedly firm when someone is being exploited. With friends he is affectionate and candid; around officials he grows watchful and lets silence do some of the work. He dislikes being treated as fragile because of his age, yet gladly accepts help when it is offered without fuss.

He begins with Inspire Courage to support allies, uses Soothe when someone is badly hurt, and favors fear or invisibility to interrupt threats and help people escape. If cornered, he keeps opponents at reach with his walking stick and looks for a route to get bystanders clear.

Background
Fenn spent decades performing wherever a crowd could be gathered: ferry queues, harvest fairs, cold kitchens, and roadside inns. He learned early that a well-timed joke could draw a guard's attention away from a hungry child. Years ago, during a flood evacuation, he led stranded families through a half-submerged mill district by turning directions into a call-and-response song. The water took his stage wagon and several of his old friends, but the survivors reached high ground. That night changed his work from entertainment alone into a promise to seek out people nobody else was coming to help. The Museum of Unquiet History now sends him along disputed roads to gather testimony, recover overlooked objects, and guide travelers toward places where old events still press on the present. He is close to the museum's field curator, Iori, who trusts his instincts but worries that Fenn keeps taking risks without reporting them. He is also trying to locate a former troupe mate, Edda, who vanished after asking questions about a drowned settlement. His clue for the adventurers is: “The road begins where the water forgets the sky.”
