Appearance
Akira is a narrow-shouldered young human with a deliberate, almost mathematical way of moving. She steps around puddles, loose stones, and other people's feet as if the world were a diagram only she can see. Her skin carries a warm copper tone, and her black hair is cut unevenly at the jaw, with one stubborn tuft that curls forward no matter how often she wets it down. She smells strongly of cedar smoke, damp wool, and bitter orange peel, a scent she insists comes from the refugee blankets and not from her. Her hands are ink-stained to the knuckles, while her fingernails are carefully clean. The contradictory impression is that she looks fragile and underfed, yet lifts heavy doors, packs, and frightened children with startling practical strength. Within a minute of meeting her, most people notice the little brass abacus always hanging from her belt. Its wooden counters are polished smooth only along the lower row, where her thumb rubs them whenever she is afraid.
“Careful and economical, with clipped sentences that become rapid when she is excited or frightened. She speaks in counts, comparisons, and practical corrections rather than metaphors.”

Distinguishing Features
A brass abacus hangs from her belt, its lower row polished bright from constant rubbing.
Her clothes carry the unmistakable scent of cedar smoke, damp wool, and bitter orange peel.
The inner lining of her school coat is filled with handwritten names and tiny corrections.
She pauses at thresholds to trace an invisible square with her toe.
Her ink-stained hands contrast with meticulously clean fingernails.
Voice
“A low, clear contralto with a dry rasp from smoke exposure. She rarely raises her volume, which makes her sudden shouts startling.”
Clothing
A patched charcoal school coat over a faded rust-red tunic, loose brown trousers, wool leg wraps, and soft-soled boots. The coat's inner lining is covered in tiny handwritten names, most of them crossed out and rewritten from memory.
Body Language
She keeps her elbows close to her ribs, tilts her head toward sounds, and touches the lower row of her abacus when making difficult decisions. When angry, she becomes perfectly still except for one finger tapping a silent count against her wrist.
