Species
Goblin
Appearance
Murtan is a small, long-limbed goblin with a face like a weathered root, broad nostrils, and ears that fold at the tips from years of sleeping beneath carts. His green skin is rough around the knuckles and shines faintly with lamp grease. He moves with a sideways, careful shuffle, as though every floorboard might betray him, yet his hands are astonishingly gentle when handling glass, thread, or injured animals. His grin reveals one polished brass tooth among crooked yellow ones. The unexpected contradiction is his spotless fingernails, which he scrubs obsessively despite living in ash, mud, and refuse.
“His voice is husky and quick, with a rasp like a match being struck. He lowers his volume when telling the truth and raises it when lying.”

Distinguishing Features
One polished brass tooth in the upper row of his crooked teeth.
A pale scar circling his left wrist from an old restraint iron.
Ears folded at the tips like bent leaves.
A tiny blue thread bracelet tied by his mother and never removed.
He smells faintly of lamp oil, sour apples, and metal filings.
Voice
“A dry, hurried rasp with sudden bursts of theatrical politeness”
Clothing
A patched brown work coat lined with stolen blue velvet, a leather apron cut down to goblin size, striped wool trousers, mismatched boots, and a red headscarf knotted under one ear. Several pockets are sewn inside the coat, including one hidden beneath the left armpit.
Body Language
Murtan keeps his shoulders hunched and his elbows close to his ribs. His eyes dart toward exits before his head follows. When lying, he becomes very still except for one thumb rubbing the edge of his brass tooth. When genuinely pleased, he rocks on his heels and taps two fingers against his thigh in a rhythm like a distant hammer.
