Merrik Halvorsen
Commoner
Merrik Halvorsen
Species
Human (Riverlands folk)
Appearance
Merrik stands with the easy poise of someone who has spent decades welcoming people through a low, crooked doorway. His face is round and warm, with laugh lines packed deeply around eyes that make strangers feel seen; his hands are broad and stained at the nails from barrels and kitchen fires. He favors comfortable posture — leaning on the inn's bar when listening, straightening abruptly when needed. He keeps a well-worn leather apron over his clothes and moves with a surprising quietness for a man of his size. Unexpectedly, when he undoes a hidden latch in the cellar he becomes very precise and small-handed, like a locksmith instead of an innkeeper. He often hums an old shipping tune under his breath, and when he smiles his left canine is capped with a tiny gold filing, a flourish from a long-ago café brawl.
“Warm, melodious, with soft consonants from a river-dialect; he peppers stories with local color and old proverbs. He lowers his voice to confide and raises it readily to include a roomful of strangers.”
