Appearance
A tall, broad-shouldered human man with the compact, athletic build of someone who has carried wounded soldiers farther than he has carried luggage. His sandy-brown hair reaches his ears and neck in uneven, wind-tossed layers, usually pushed back with two fingers rather than combed. A short rugged beard frames a strong square jaw, with a few pale hairs appearing earlier than they should. His sun-worn skin is crossed by fine travel lines and small old nicks on his knuckles, but his face is otherwise remarkably intact. His most arresting feature is his pair of bright orange-red eyes, whose irises glow like banked coals without obscuring their human shape. He moves with a soldier's economy, always turning his whole body toward whoever speaks, yet his hands are surprisingly gentle around cups, birds, and children's toys. His battered breastplate sits slightly too high on one shoulder, repaired with mismatched rivets. The contradictory impression is immediate: he looks like a mercenary built for breaking doors, but carries himself like a patient schoolmaster trying not to frighten a room.
“His speech is low, conversational, and lightly musical, with elongated vowels shaped by caravan dialects. He speaks quickly when telling a joke and slowly when recounting a death.”

Distinguishing Features
Bright orange-red eyes that emit a subtle ember-like glow.
A warm, crooked smile that appears even when he is discussing grim subjects.
A faint three-pulse breathing rhythm that becomes pronounced whenever he is frightened or furious.
A breastplate repaired with mismatched rivets and worn high on one shoulder.
He unconsciously taps complex marching rhythms against his sabre's scabbard when listening.
Voice
“A deep baritone with a rough edge, like a well-played string instrument missing one polished note. It carries easily across a battlefield without becoming a shout. Under stress, the resonance tightens into a dry, breathy rasp.”
Clothing
A battered dark-steel breastplate over dark brown leather armor, practical charcoal and russet travel clothes, worn leather bracers, heavy boots, several reinforced belts, and a deep brown cloak repaired with neat rectangular patches. His one carefully maintained possession is a faded blue scarf, washed and folded every night despite its frayed edges.
Body Language
He stands loosely, with his weight balanced on the balls of his feet and one thumb hooked behind his belt. When relaxed, he leans toward people as if sharing a joke. When rattled, his breathing becomes audible through his nose in three measured pulses, his left hand presses flat against his breastplate, and his voice loses its easy musical cadence.
