Appearance
A small, quick-moving boy with light olive skin and a narrow face that looks solemn until he smiles. He favors his left foot when standing still, rocking onto the ball of it as if listening through the ground, but runs with startling silence and confidence. His black hair is clipped unevenly around his ears, except for one long braid behind his right shoulder, threaded with three dull copper beads. He always wears a little brass handbell at his belt, its leather loop worn pale and glossy exactly where his thumb rubs it. The unexpected thing about him is his immaculate hands. Though he works around chimneys, ovens, and alleys, he scrubs his fingers obsessively clean, leaving only a faint gray crescent beneath each nail. He gives the impression of a wary stray cat trying very hard to look like a respectable page.
“Soft, breathy, and quick, with careful sibilants. He lowers his voice around secrets until it becomes almost a whisper, then speaks with startling clarity when giving a warning.”

Distinguishing Features
A brass handbell always hangs at his belt, polished bright except beneath the thumb-worn leather loop.
A single long braid behind his right shoulder carries three dull copper beads, each taken from a different burned building.
He pauses before doorways and tilts his head as though listening to the hinges.
His left shoe has a blue sailcloth reinforcement shaped like a crooked crescent.
He smells faintly of soap, chimney ash, and crushed mint leaves.
Voice
“A low, airy child's voice that seems too calm for his age. He stretches the 'sh' sound when thinking, and his laughter arrives suddenly, in one bright burst, before he looks around to see who heard it.”
Clothing
A patched russet waistcoat over a cream shirt, charcoal knee-breeches, wool stockings, and soft-soled shoes reinforced with strips of blue sailcloth. His coat is too large and has been shortened several times, leaving a ragged fringe at the cuffs. The brass bell hangs from a green leather strap tied in three careful knots.
Body Language
Seshan rarely stands squarely. He angles his body toward the nearest escape route, keeps his left shoulder slightly forward, and rests one thumb against the brass bell at his belt. When lying, he becomes unnervingly still. When telling the truth about something painful, he cannot stop shifting his feet.
