Marxan
Bard, College of Swords
Marxan
Species
Human, vampire
Appearance
Marxan looks like a courtier preserved at the instant before a portrait painter began working. His pale skin has the faint bluish cast of old porcelain, but the skin around his knuckles is unusually warm and flushed after he feeds. His dark hair is cut close at the sides and combed back with severe precision, though one stubborn lock curls over his right temple whenever he becomes angry. His narrow goatee is braided with a single black silk thread, which he checks between his fingers whenever someone lies to him. He moves with economical grace, never quite walking in a straight line, as if every step is part of a fencing pattern. The unexpected contradiction is his smile: it is broad, almost boyish, and disarmingly sincere, despite the rest of him giving the impression of a sealed crypt. He leaves behind the smell of clove oil, cold iron, and rain on stone.
“His voice is low, precise, and velvet-smooth, with clipped consonants and a faint riverland cadence. He speaks as though every sentence has been rehearsed for an audience of one hundred, but occasional mortal idioms slip through when he is tired.”

Distinguishing Features
A black silk thread is braided into his goatee and checked compulsively with his fingertips.
His smile is unexpectedly warm and youthful, sharply at odds with his corpse-pale appearance.
The silver stitching on his coat forms tiny musical rests rather than decorative lines.
He never blinks during the final exchange of a negotiation.
His shadow sometimes turns its head a fraction of a second before he does.
Voice
“Low, intimate, and theatrically controlled, with a warm laugh that appears only when he forgets to be afraid.”
Clothing
A charcoal-grey duelist's coat with a high collar, narrow sleeves, and silver stitching at the cuffs; a black shirt fastened with dull hematite buttons; fitted trousers; soft black boots; and a wine-red sash hidden beneath the coat. His gloves are made from pale kid leather and are always immaculate except for a single dark stain on the right palm.
Body Language
Marxan keeps his shoulders relaxed and his chin slightly lowered, as though listening to music no one else can hear. His left thumb repeatedly checks the silk thread in his goatee. In combat, his body narrows into a fencer's line, with the rapier held low and the free hand open like a conductor's hand. When genuinely surprised, he stops moving entirely for one heartbeat.
