Thalumai Ndero
Cultist ritualist
Thalumai Ndero
Species
Human
Appearance
Thalumai is a narrow-shouldered, long-limbed human with the deliberate posture of someone carrying a basin filled to the brim. Their skin is dark umber, filmed in a permanent sheen of mineral dust that gathers in the creases of their knuckles. Their face is oval and severe, with a flattened bridge of the nose, a chipped front tooth, and tiny white ritual scars arranged beneath the left eye like falling stars. Their movements are slow until they suddenly are not. When a seal trembles, Thalumai crosses a room with startling, birdlike speed, robes snapping behind them. The unexpected contradiction is their hands: despite years spent among bones, salt, and corrosive dust, their fingers are extraordinarily gentle, more suited to mending a child's torn garment than handling a weapon.
“Low, careful, and unhurried, with long pauses before names. Their voice becomes almost inaudible near the deepest chamber, as if speaking loudly might give the vault a clearer path to their thoughts.”

Distinguishing Features
Three pale ritual scars beneath the left eye, shaped like descending dots.
A chipped front tooth wrapped with a thin copper wire.
A constant tremor in the left hand that stops whenever Thalumai touches a ward-stone.
Their shadow occasionally points toward the deepest chamber even when the light comes from the opposite direction.
A faint smell of wet clay, bitter herbs, and iron follows them.
Voice
“A low contralto with a dry rasp, like reeds dragged across a clay jar. When the Unmoored Vastness presses against their mind, a second cadence appears beneath their words, delayed by half a heartbeat.”
Clothing
A layered indigo work robe beneath a sleeveless vest stitched with strips of pale leather. Their hood is patched with ochre thread, and a broad sash holds salt packets, bone needles, chalk, and tiny seal tablets. Their boots are wrapped in waxed reed fiber to keep them from slipping on wet stone.
Body Language
Thalumai keeps their elbows close and their hands folded over their sternum, as if physically holding their thoughts in place. When frightened, they smooth dust from their sleeves. When lying, they become unnaturally still except for one twitching thumb.
