High Inquisitor Marek Vance
Wizard, Order of Scribes
High Inquisitor Marek Vance
Species
Human
Appearance
A gaunt human man assembled from angles, iron, and immaculate restraint. Marek's close-cropped iron-grey hair lies flat as hammered wire, while his deep-set eyes move constantly behind narrow wire-rimmed reading lenses, measuring distances, exits, hands, and hesitation. His fingers are calloused at the joints and permanently stained with blue-black ink, except for one clean fingertip on his left hand that he keeps reserved for sealing death warrants. He moves with small, exact steps, never crossing a threshold without first looking down at it. His face is severe enough to make clerks lower their voices, yet his hands are unexpectedly gentle when turning the pages of a witness's testimony. The contradiction is most striking when he smiles: it is a warm, almost paternal expression that appears only while delivering devastating news.
“His voice is low, dry, and carefully paced, with every sentence shaped like a clause in a legal document. He rarely raises his volume.”

Distinguishing Features
A brass chain disappears into his left sleeve and is attached to a tiny balance hidden beneath his cuff.
His right lens is etched with a hair-thin grid visible only when it catches candlelight.
There is a pale burn scar across his palm in the shape of a broken seal.
His ink-stained fingers leave faint blue fingerprints on every document he handles.
His awakened spellbook occasionally turns its own pages in response to lies.
Voice
“A dry baritone with the measured cadence of a clerk reading a sentence. It is never hurried, and its gentlest phrases sound as though they have survived several rounds of review.”
Clothing
A perfectly pressed slate-grey wool inquisitorial coat and vestments, lined with concealed brass weights and measuring chains. His cuffs are secured by tiny legal seals, his boots are polished black leather with square iron heels, and a red thread is sewn into the inner collar as a private reminder of the Ashwater dead.
Body Language
He stands perfectly upright with his shoulders slightly drawn inward, as though bracing against invisible rain. He aligns objects within reach, touches his lenses before difficult statements, and presses his thumb to the edge of his ledger whenever someone mentions the Ashwater Trials. In combat, his posture remains rigid while glowing lines and pages move around him with frantic precision.
