Tarsus-9
Artificer, Armorer
Tarsus-9
Species
Gearforged
Appearance
Tarsus-9 is a massive Gearforged built from overlapping slabs of industrial iron, stained bronze, and blackened riveted steel. Its armor is not polished but burnished by decades of grit, mineral deposits, and contact with wet machinery. Hydraulic seals flex beneath its plating, releasing soft, rhythmic hisses whenever it turns, as though a patient animal were breathing inside the chassis. Its forearms terminate in broad mechanical gauntlets fitted with pressure gauges, sonic tuning forks, interchangeable valve keys, and retractable inspection needles. A blue optical lens sits in the center of its head like a lighthouse seen through fog, surrounded by hairline cracks in the bronze faceplate. It moves with surprising delicacy for something so heavy, placing each foot with the care of a surgeon. The contradictory impression is unmistakable: Tarsus-9 looks like a battering ram built for demolishing factories, yet it handles fragile glass gauges and frightened children with exquisite gentleness.
“Tarsus-9 speaks in a low, resonant register layered with faint valve clicks. Its sentences are concise and exact, often beginning with an observation and ending with a quantified conclusion.”

Distinguishing Features
A blue optical lens fractured into three permanent radial lines.
A bronze chest plate stamped with the serial numbers of workers lost in the Black Sluice Incident.
A small green fern growing from a vent near its left shoulder.
Pressure gauges across both gauntlets display constantly changing readings.
One foot has been rebuilt from mismatched parts, giving its stride a faint metallic limp.
Voice
“Low, resonant, and metallic, with a faint tremor of steam in every pause”
Clothing
A dark green oilskin mantle hangs from its shoulders, patched with warden insignia and weighted at the hem so it will not snag in turbine rooms. It wears a tool harness, brass identification plates, waterproof map tubes, and a faded red scarf tied around one upper arm by a deceased pump worker.
Body Language
Tarsus-9 angles its head in precise increments while listening. Its fingers tap pressure gauges when thinking, and its shoulder vents open slightly when irritated. When protecting someone, it places its entire armored frame between them and danger without comment. When ashamed, it lowers its optical lens and deliberately vents steam from the seams around its neck.
