Appearance
Kettig is a broad-shouldered human man with the compact, weight-forward stance of someone trained to become a wall before he learned to become a warrior. He moves with careful economy, planting each foot as though testing the firmness of a bridge. His voice is low and dry, but his breathing is unusually audible through his nose, a steady two-count that becomes a sharp, involuntary whistle when he is frightened or furious. He leaves the impression of a patient stone post until something threatens a person behind him, at which point he becomes startlingly quick. The contradiction is that his intimidating armor and square silhouette conceal a remarkably gentle face, with soft cheeks and a shy smile that appears whenever children ask him to demonstrate a shield maneuver.
“Measured and plain, with clipped consonants and a faint river-country cadence. He often pauses before verbs, as though checking whether the action is safe to describe.”

Distinguishing Features
A steady two-count breathing rhythm that becomes a sharp nasal whistle when he is rattled.
A round iron token from the collapsed bridge, always worn on a cord beneath his gorget.
The token is polished almost bare only along its lower edge, where his thumb rubs it during watch.
His shield has a small brass latch near the rim that he checks before every conversation.
He smiles apologetically before delivering threats, which makes the threats more unsettling.
Voice
“A low baritone with a dry rasp, like a file drawn across iron. His normal cadence is calm and deliberate. When surprised, his breath catches into a tiny whistle before he can answer. When furious, the rasp vanishes and his voice becomes unnervingly soft.”
Clothing
A patched blue-gray gambeson beneath riveted chain mail, heavy brown trousers tucked into mud-stained boots, and a faded red neck cloth tied in a practical knot. His shield bears the Bastion's unfinished white tower mark, painted over an older caravan-company emblem.
Body Language
Kettig keeps his shoulders slightly forward, as if expecting a door to slam into him. He angles his body between vulnerable people and open space without seeming to notice he is doing it. When rattled, his steady breathing turns into short nasal clicks, and he grips the lower rim of his shield so tightly that his knuckles pale.
