Appearance

Varis is a young dragonborn woman with bronze scales dulled by years of dust, smoke, and mineral-rich water. Fine clay powder gathers beneath her black claws and settles in the shallow ridges around her knuckles, no matter how often she washes. Her scales are smallest and most delicate along her cheeks, where they overlap like hammered metal leaves, while the heavier plates of her neck click softly when she turns her head. A thin scar splits the left side of her lower jaw, giving her resting expression the look of a patient frown. She moves with careful, economical precision, stepping around people as if they were fragile objects in a crowded storeroom. The unexpected contradiction is that her hands, though stained and callused from archival labor, are astonishingly gentle. She can lift a crumbling tablet without shedding a grain of it, yet she has been known to slam a council ledger hard enough to crack its binding.

Height6 feet 1 inch
BuildCompact and sturdy, with a laborer's shoulders, strong forearms, and a slightly hunched posture from years spent over low archive tables
EyesDark amber with narrow green rings around the pupils
HairBlack, worn in short braided cords threaded with copper wire and bits of green glass
SkinBronze scales mottled with umber along the shoulders and river-green patina around the throat

Her voice is low, measured, and dry, with a faint rasp caused by years of breathing clay dust. She speaks in complete, carefully weighted sentences, but when someone threatens a vulnerable person her words become short and startlingly sharp.”

Distinguishing Features

A jaw scar that glints pale against her bronze scales

Clay dust permanently embedded beneath her claws

A chipped horn wrapped with green thread from the Hall's first banner

A tail-tip stained dark blue by archival dye

A habit of carrying one broken tablet fragment as a worry stone

Voice

A low, dry alto with careful pauses, like a stylus being set down between sentences.

Clothing

A moss-green archivist's coat reinforced with stitched leather at the elbows, a clay-red sash bearing the Green Banner sigil, fingerless gloves, soft wrapped boots, and a belt crowded with styluses, string tags, sealing wax, and tiny brushes

Body Language

Varis keeps her shoulders square and her tail tucked close when speaking with authority figures. Around laborers and refugees, she lowers herself to their eye level and rests her palms openly on the table. When someone lies about a document, one claw begins tracing invisible letters against her opposite wrist.
