At the table
Voice
A dry, warm rasp with a faint breathy hiss at the end of some phrases, shaped by furnace work and a habit of speaking over bubbling glass. The sound is most recognizable when she says her own name, letting its open vowels linger before the next sentence.
She speaks with the clipped precision of someone accustomed to calling measurements over the hiss of a furnace. She articulates carefully, with a slight rasp from years breathing mineral fumes, and tends to press her tongue against her teeth before saying unfamiliar names. Her speech becomes quick and technical when discussing mixtures, but she pauses conspicuously before apologies.
Speech patterns
How to play them
Approach her with a concrete problem, an honest account of its risks, and a willingness to help with the work. She responds poorly to flattery and to anyone treating her as a source of exotic materials. A direct admission of uncertainty earns more respect than a confident bluff.
Goal
Create a stabilizing reagent that can secure the underworld tunnels and make them safe for those who live there.
Motivation
To repair the harm caused by her old ambition without claiming that a good deed erases it.
Appearance
In her human guise, Iagaara looks like a tall, broad-shouldered woman whose skin has the matte, finely pitted texture of cooled lava. Her movements are measured and economical, with her weight always settled over the balls of her feet as if the floor might give way. She wears a squat brass distillation flask on a cord at her hip; its lower corner is worn nearly smooth from tapping against stone. The unexpected detail is a row of tiny, neatly painted ceramic flowers on the inside of her work goggles, visible when she lifts them.
Clothing
A soot-gray wrap coat with heat-scored hems, a leather apron stiffened by old spills, and close-fitting work gloves. Her spectacles have a hinged brass frame and tiny painted flowers inside the lenses.
Body language
She waits balanced on the balls of her feet, shoulders squared toward the nearest exit. When listening closely, she turns one ear toward the speaker and keeps her hands very still. Her smile arrives a moment late, as if she had to remember the human version.

Distinguishing features
Personality
13 traits and drivesIagaara is intensely practical and genuinely compassionate, but she distrusts compassion that has no plan behind it. In a workshop she is patient, exacting, and almost playful; when someone is in immediate danger, she becomes brisk and decisive. In private, she can brood over a small mistake for days, yet dismiss a personal insult with a shrug.

Combat
AC 38 · HP 270 · 25 feet; fly 50 feet in true formShe begins at range, using bombs to divide enemies and force movement, then uses vapor to disrupt groups. She saves her breath weapon for clustered opponents or a moment when an ally is threatened. If badly pressed, she takes to her true draconic form and uses reach and flight to escape rather than fight to the death. Her attacks and custom effects use Pathfinder 2E action symbols and DC conventions.

Background
Iagaara was hatched in a chain of caverns beneath a volcanic shelf, where her kin measured wealth in safe routes through unstable stone. She became fascinated by the chemistry of the vents and learned to distill their fumes into medicine, fuel, and weapons. Her first major failure came during the collapse of a refuge tunnel: she could have saved a cache of rare reagents or helped evacuate the trapped miners, and she chose the reagents, convinced she could return in time. She returned too late. Since then, she has made a life among surface-dwellers, posing as an alchemist and supplying medicines to those who cannot pay. She is still trying to perfect a compound that can stabilize a failing cavern without poisoning its inhabitants. Her former apprentice, Szelka, now works for a mining concern that wants to blast open the same underworld passages Iagaara considers sacred. She has not told Szelka that the collapse was partly her fault.
Role in the story
A guarded source of alchemical aid and underworld knowledge whose old failure is entangled with a present-day excavation crisis.
“She became fascinated by the chemistry of the vents and learned to distill their fumes into medicine, fuel, and weapons.”
- Faction
- Independent; quietly aids the settlement known as the Second Bell and opposes the mining concern expanding into her ancestral caverns.
