Miklos Vares
Fighter, Battle Master
Miklos Vares
Species
Human
Appearance
A compact human man who looks more like a tired village smith than a legendary adventurer. He waits with his weight on the balls of both feet, never quite resting, and moves in short, economical steps that make him seem to slide rather than walk. His armor is scarred but obsessively maintained, each buckle polished and each strap replaced before it frays. The unexpected detail is his hands: broad, callused, and stained with oil, yet remarkably gentle when handling a cup, a child, or an injured animal. He smells faintly of lamp oil, wet iron, and mint. His expression is usually hidden behind a closed helm, but when he removes it, his face is plain, young-looking, and almost painfully kind.
“Low, controlled, and blunt. He speaks quickly when describing danger and slowly when offering reassurance.”

Distinguishing Features
His helmet has three small copper bells sewn inside the rim, but they have been filled with wax so they never ring.
He carries a child-sized blue mitten tied to the inside of his breastplate, replacing it whenever the wool wears thin.
His left boot has a raised heel made for bracing against tunnel walls.
He keeps one sleeve rolled to the elbow even in cold weather, revealing a line of tiny white dots tattooed along his forearm, one for every settlement he failed to reach in time.
Despite his severe reputation, he hums cheerful harvest songs while cleaning weapons.
Voice
“A restrained baritone with a faint northern cadence, softened by years of speaking quietly in tunnels. His voice becomes almost tender when addressing children, animals, or damaged equipment.”
Clothing
Dull gray chain mail beneath layered leather armor, a battered kettle helm with a narrow eye slit, reinforced gloves, dark wool trousers, and soft-soled boots. His cloak is brown on one side and faded blue on the other, allowing him to blend with earth or night sky.
Body Language
He stands slightly crouched with his elbows close to his ribs and his hands near his equipment. When listening, he tilts his helmet toward the speaker as though measuring distance. He rarely gestures broadly, but he points with absolute precision. In moments of comfort, he unconsciously taps two fingers against his knee in a steady mining rhythm.
