Appearance
Uhtari Kivinen is a broad-shouldered human man with the compact, weather-hardened build of someone who has spent years hauling nets, climbing wet stone, and sleeping beneath bad roofs. His skin is copper-brown and roughened across the forearms and cheeks by salt wind, while the backs of his hands are permanently darkened by peat dust and bowstring resin. His black hair is cut close at the sides but left long on top, where it falls in stiff, wind-bent strands. He moves with a quiet sideways economy, always angling his body as if expecting a gust or a blow from the dark. Within a minute of meeting him, people notice the smell of smoked juniper, damp wool, and bitter orange peel. Uhtari knows about the wool and juniper, but insists the orange is imaginary. His most contradictory feature is his gentleness with animals. A man who can kill a troll without hesitation will spend ten minutes persuading a frightened gull to leave a windowsill.
“His speech is measured and practical, with occasional northern vowel sounds and clipped phrases learned from sailors. He pauses before names, as if weighing whether the person has earned the full sound of them.”

Distinguishing Features
He smells faintly of smoked juniper, damp wool, and orange peel.
The nails of his left hand are stained black from years of handling peat-charcoal warding marks.
He wears his sister's ochre scarf even in warm weather, though he claims it is only useful for filtering dust.
A thin line of silver calluses circles both wrists from repeatedly handling consecrated cord.
His laugh is sudden, bright, and completely at odds with his otherwise guarded manner.
Voice
“Low and dry, with a calm cadence that becomes unexpectedly warm when speaking to children, animals, or the dead.”
Clothing
A patched dark-green wool coat fastened with bone toggles, layered linen beneath, salt-stiff trousers, wrapped boots, and a short ochre scarf that belonged to his sister. His coat is lined with sewn pockets containing chalk, cord, dried fruit, and tiny carved markers.
Body Language
Uhtari keeps his shoulders relaxed but his hands close to useful objects. He leans toward frightened people and away from confident ones. When lying, he becomes unusually still, with only his thumb rubbing the edge of a weapon grip.
