The Bell Beneath the Water
The Bell Beneath the Water
“A missing bellkeeper, a flooded shrine, and an ancient voice beneath the village.”
— Hook · rescue
“Tamsin Vale, Brackenford's young bellkeeper, vanished beneath Saint Orra's Shrine three nights ago. Since then, the abandoned bell tower has rung at midnight, and cold water has begun rising in the village wells. The reeve will pay you to enter the shrine, find Tamsin, and bring her home before the next midnight bell.”
— Hook · rescue
The adventure begins in Brackenford's village square during a light rain. The old shrine bell rings once despite the tower being visibly empty. Reeve Elda Marris explains that Tamsin disappeared after following blue light into a sealed stairwell, while Perrin Holt points out fresh wet footprints leading from the shrine to a locked maintenance door. Elda offers payment, food, and the village's gratitude, but warns that the next midnight bell is only a few hours away.
Elda Marris
Elda Marris approaches the characters in the village square after the empty bell tower rings. She is practical, exhausted, and visibly frightened, but refuses to leave the village while Tamsin remains below the shrine.

If Tamsin remains below the shrine until the next midnight bell, the Drowned Cantor will bind her as the new keeper of the aqueduct. The rising water will then burst through Brackenford's lower streets, damaging homes and contaminating the wells. Success saves Tamsin and gives the village a chance to restore or safely retire the ancient waterworks.
Background Lore
For generations, the hill village of Brackenford has relied on the old bell tower at Saint Orra's Shrine to warn of floods, fires, and raids. Three nights ago, the shrine's young bellkeeper, Tamsin Vale, vanished while investigating a strange blue light beneath the tower. Since then, the bell has rung once at midnight each night, though no one is inside. The village council fears Tamsin is trapped in the abandoned aqueduct tunnels beneath the shrine.
Brackenford's young bellkeeper, Tamsin Vale, disappeared beneath Saint Orra's Shrine three nights ago. Since then, the shrine bell has rung by itself at midnight, and the village wells have begun filling with icy water. The characters are hired to enter the shrine, find Tamsin, and bring her home before the next bell. They may discover that an ancient guardian is involved, but the true nature of its pact with Brackenford is unknown.
