The Opening

The drowned halls of Flaydra Manor lie beneath the Sea Mount caves, and Sir Drigabond has entered them with Clovara Withold under his control. If he reaches the sealed chamber below the manor, something ancient may awaken beneath the sea. The Staff of Crux has begun whispering a name none of you remember learning.

Set the Scene

The final underwater tunnel opens into a drowned throne room. Seaweed hangs from balconies like torn banners, pale lights move behind the windows, and a trail of black residue leads across the floor toward a stairway descending into the manor. Clovara's sword lies broken beside the entrance, but her footprints continue onward. As the party approaches the stairs, the Staff of Crux whispers through its bearer: "He is not opening the door for me. He is opening it for himself."

The College of Swords sends the party after Clovara when her expedition stops reporting and several students return from the Sea Mount caves with no memory of the journey. The College cannot send its own senior instructors without risking a public scandal, so the party is asked to recover Clovara, determine whether she has betrayed the College, and prevent Sir Drigabond from exploiting her knowledge.

  4. 04
Sir Drigabond once swore an oath to protect the College of Swords, then vanished after accusing its masters of hiding a royal secret.
  5. 05
The Staff of Crux has changed hands many times, but every previous bearer eventually tried to return to the sea.
Stakes

If the ritual succeeds, the deity trapped within the Staff of Crux will gain a physical vessel and the blight will spread through Clovara into the College of Swords. If the party fails to save Clovara, the College may become a tool of the awakened power. If they rely too heavily on the Staff, they may stop the ritual while giving the imprisoned deity a stronger claim over its bearer.

Ticking Clock·Sir Drigabond reaches the Crux Vault in approximately four hours. Once the first ritual sigil is activated, the party has roughly one hour before the vault opens completely. Each major delay, failed investigation sequence, or extended rest advances the ritual by one stage.

Background Lore

Long before the College of Swords was founded, King Flaydra built a fortified palace within a network of sea caves. The castle was designed around the Crux Vault, a ritual chamber where the ancient Enveloper's imprisoned an evil deity inside a sentient weapon now known as the Staff of Crux. When Flaydra attempted to seize the weapon, the Enveloper's drowned the entire manor and sealed it beneath the sea. Centuries later, the blight has begun to grow through the ruins, feeding on memory, ambition, and living minds.

What the World Knows

The adventurers have descended into the Sea Mount caves and discovered Flaydra Manor, the sunken castle of a lost king. Sir Drigabond, a fallen knight, has taken Clovara Withold under the influence of the blight and is pursuing a sealed power beneath the castle. The party must follow him, uncover the truth behind the manor's destruction, rescue Clovara, and prevent an ancient threat from awakening in the depths.
