About

The shop is called Splitstone Forge for the broad, waist-high boulder embedded in its front threshold. Locals say the rock split when the first hearthstone was laid; Borun insists it cracked years later under a dropped anvil. The low stone building smells of coal smoke, hot iron, and wet leather. A narrow front room displays finished arms and armor, while the forge glows through a soot-dark arch at the back. Hammers ring from dawn until dusk, and a brass bell over the door is loud enough to carry into the rear workroom. Borun is broad-shouldered, gray-bearded, and sparing with praise. He judges a blade by its balance, keeps a whetstone in his apron, and offers a short lesson in proper care with every costly purchase. Two apprentices sleep in a loft above the workroom and help watch the counter when Borun is at the forge.
