About

The merchant is traveling home to a farming kingdom after years in a magic-focused realm in the cold northern mountains. He speaks warmly of practical charms and growing seasons, and keeps a sprig of dried calendula beside his spell components. The shop is a narrow, frost-blue covered wagon with shelves packed tightly around a little stove. Its painted sign shows a golden harvest moon, a boast from its former life as a grand mountain emporium; these days it is simply a well-kept traveling stall. The merchant, Kiyoshi Varga, is a level 4 human wizard with a patient manner, wind-reddened cheeks, and a habit of testing every jar lid twice before selling it.

The valuables are divided between the front counter and the curtained sleeping compartment of the merchant's covered wagon. A tiny charm-bell on the cedar box alerts anyone sleeping in the rear.

Security check: DC 16Finesse
If they fail: A hanging charm-bell rings, waking the merchant and his hired driver in the curtained rear compartment. The driver blocks the narrow exit while the merchant calls for help; the party is confronted and must deal with the accusation, a possible chase, or a favor demanded in restitution.

Road Purse1 handful of gold
Kept: In a belt pouch beneath the merchant's bedroll in the rear compartment.
A leather purse containing a modest handful of mixed coins, enough for everyday road expenses.
Turnip Good-Luck Charm1 handful of gold to the right collector, but priceless to the owner
Kept: Tucked into the merchant's coat pocket on a peg beside the sleeping space.
A small wooden charm carved like a plump turnip, worn smooth from handling. It is sentimental rather than valuable.
Mountain Spell Components2 handfuls of gold
Kept: In a locked cedar box beneath the front display counter.
Three carefully wrapped spell components: a silver wire coil, a thumb-sized piece of amber, and a vial of powdered crystal.
Travel Ledger1 handful of gold to someone seeking the listed information
Kept: Under the false bottom of a drawer beside the till.
A stitched ledger listing customers, unpaid balances, and the merchant's planned route through the farming kingdom. It could reveal useful contacts or a private debt, but is not worth much as merchandise.
