About

The Reedcut was named for the long stand of reeds cleared to raise its little boardwalk and stilted shop. Its glass-fronted shelves glow amber through the fog, while bundles of dried plants stir overhead in the damp air. The place smells of peat, sharp herbs, and hot wax; beads of condensation tick against the windows as frogs rasp outside. Its owner, Shessi, is a small halfling with a quick eye and ink-dark cuffs. She weighs every coin twice, remembers every face, and keeps her best stock behind a cabinet that clicks softly whenever someone lies nearby.

Stash

4 items to steal

The stash · GM only

The till, supplier ledger, and best small valuables are split between a false-bottomed drawer beneath the counter and the locked cabinet behind it. Shessi sleeps in a loft above the rear storeroom, where the floorboards creak and a simple bell-and-thread alarm is tied to the stair.

Security check: DC 17Dexterity (Thieves’ Tools)
If they fail: The shop’s reed floor gives a sharp, hollow squeak, waking Shessi in the loft. She drops a shuttered lantern into the shop and calls for the marsh watch; the party has moments to flee or explain themselves before the warded front door seals.
The whole haul: About 155 gp

Day’s Tills46 gp
Kept: Inside a false-bottomed drawer beneath the front counter
A leather coin purse holding 38 gp, 74 sp, and 19 cp in mixed Waterdhavian and caravan coin.
Value: 46 gp, 9 sp
Shessi’s Thimble8 gp
Kept: In a sewing tin beside the narrow stair to the loft
A silver thimble engraved with a tiny heron, polished smooth at the rim and worth more to its owner than its metal.
Amber Marsh Specimen75 gp
Kept: In a locked glass cabinet behind the counter
A palm-sized amber bead containing an intact mosquito, a rare specimen sought by collectors of swamp curiosities.
Supplier’s Ledger25 gp
Kept: Wrapped in oilskin beneath the counter’s false bottom
A slim ledger listing suppliers, unusual deliveries, and unpaid tabs. Several entries identify customers by initials and describe where they were last seen in the swamp.
Value: 25 gp to a buyer seeking information; more if used as leverage
