About

Hammer and Hinge began when two rival smiths, one known for hammering blades and the other for fitting armor hinges, were forced to share a workshop after a fire consumed both neighboring forges. The old rivalry survives in the shop's mismatched sign: one half is a blackened hammer, the other a bright iron hinge. Inside, the air is warm with coal smoke and the ring of steel on anvil. Blades hang by size on one wall; shields and fitted armor line the other. The owner is stern but fair about repairs and will not sell a weapon she considers unsafe. She keeps a brass partnership token in her apron and checks the front latch before closing.

The shop's valuables are split between a locked cashbox under the front counter and a small cupboard in the smith's workroom. A bell-wire guards the strongroom latch, while the shopkeeper or one of her two apprentices is usually within earshot.

If they fail: A bell-wire tied to the strongroom latch rings at the front counter. The smith and her two apprentices close the shutters, block the shop's exits, and confront the intruders; if the party resists, they raise an alarm for the nearby watch.
