About

The front room is a general store in name and a working armory in practice: sacks of oats, lamp oil, and rope share space with weapon racks and armor stands. Heat from the forge makes the windows shimmer, and every few minutes the shop shudders with a hammer blow from the rear workshop. Targ keeps ordinary goods close to the entrance and expensive armor in plain sight, where he can watch customers handle it. He is blunt but fair, and will arrange fitting or repairs for a reasonable fee.

Stash

4 items to steal

The stash · GM only

The shop's valuables are scattered between the counter, the forge room, and Targ's cramped sleeping loft above the rear storeroom. The front door and bell wire make a quiet exit difficult.

Security check: DC 14Dexterity (Stealth) to move quietly; thieves' tools are appropriate to open the till
If they fail: A bell wire behind the counter rings into the forge room. Targ comes out with a smith's hammer, bars the front door, and calls the town watch; if the party forces a fight, his apprentice joins him from the work area.
The whole haul: About 54 gp

Counter Till18 gp
Kept: Locked drawer beneath the front counter; the key hangs from Targ's belt during business hours.
A modest float for making change, mostly silver and copper, with a few gold coins beneath the till tray.
Value: 18 gp, 34 sp, 60 cp
Brass Locket2 gp
Kept: Inside a folded shirt in Targ's small sleeping loft.
A battered brass locket holding a faded miniature of Targ's late spouse. Little resale value, but clearly cherished.
Engraver's Tool Roll25 gp
Kept: Wrapped in oiled cloth on a shelf beside the forge.
A set of finely made steel punches and measuring calipers, prized by any working smith.
Order Ledger5 gp
Kept: In a narrow compartment under the counter, behind a stack of blank invoices.
A ledger listing local customers, unpaid balances, and orders for weapons and armor. It could expose debts or reveal who recently bought fighting gear.
Value: 5 gp to the right buyer; less as scrap
