The Green Larder smells of beeswax, dried mint, cool stone, and preserved fruit. Its shelves are arranged by season rather than by price, and each jar bears a handwritten note about its source, quality, and likely replacement date. Maelin Voss, a sharp-eyed human woman in her late fifties, wears a green wool vest over rolled linen sleeves and keeps a silver spoon tucked behind one ear. She remembers every customer’s preferred salt grind and notices immediately when someone buys food for more people than they claim to have. Maelin rarely overcharges, but she quietly raises prices on goods from failing farms to keep those farmers solvent. Beneath her practical manner is a network of favors, warnings, and discreet food deliveries. She knows which farms are failing before their owners admit it publicly, and she may offer a discount, a warning, or a small task to adventurers who seem trustworthy.

The shop’s most valuable goods are divided between the locked counter drawers, a cedar reserve cabinet in the rear storeroom, and a hidden floorboard in Maelin’s cramped office. The front room is long and cool, with narrow aisles between shelves of jars. The rear door opens into a covered loading court, while Maelin sleeps in a loft directly above the office and keeps a trained mastiff near the storeroom.

If they fail: A failed theft attempt triggers a concealed bell beneath the counter and causes a stack of glass jars to collapse loudly. If the party fails the check by 5 or more, a nearby farmer arrives within 10 minutes and recognizes at least one stolen item, making the theft known throughout Oakmere.
