About

The shop, called the Cutstone, occupies a narrow building where a stubborn shelf of bedrock was cut back to lay its foundation. Its front window is thick glass, filled with rings and bright stones arranged to catch even weak daylight. Inside, the air smells of hot metal, polishing grit, and lavender oil. Every display is spotless, and the tiny chime above the door rings a clear, high note. The owner, Dovren, is a middle-aged human jeweler with careful hands and a patient, watchful manner. He wears a leather apron, keeps a loupe on a cord at his neck, and can identify most stones by touch. He is courteous with customers but will not bargain over an appraisal he has already written down.
