The shop occupies a low-ceilinged building with a bell over the front door, sacks of grain stacked beside the counter, and a faint smell of soap, onions, and damp wool. Its owner insists the place is called The Dry Flood because, years ago, a spring torrent sent water through the street but somehow left the shop's floor untouched. Travelers keep expecting a canal or a flood mark; instead, they find neat shelves of candles, nails, crockery, seed, and trail supplies. The storekeeper, Ragna, is a middle-aged human commoner with flour-dusted sleeves, a quick eye for short measures, and a habit of tapping every coin twice before it goes in the till. She is brisk rather than unfriendly, and gives a small discount when customers bring back clean jars.
