The Guardian Beneath the Crescent Moon
Read Aloud
The roots heave as a tree-shaped guardian tears itself from the shrine floor, a bright shard buried in its chest. Four thorned roots lash across the sap-slick stone while two broken stone guardians rise beside the altars. The shard pulses, and the treant turns toward you as if it remembers a command it can no longer obey.

Battlefield Zones
1
Moon Shrine
The shrine floor is slick with luminous sap; the guardian begins here.
2
Root Altars
Three root altars ring the shrine, each chest-high and thick enough to block arrows.
3
Broken Pillars
Twisted roots and broken pillars make a narrow outer ring around the shrine.
Terrain Levers
- A root altar grants half cover; a heavy hit collapses it, leaving difficult terrain.
- A luminous sap pool can be splashed onto a creature within 5 feet, revealing the shard's weak point until the end of the next round.
- A character adjacent to an altar can spend an action performing the calming rite: DC 13 Wisdom (Religion or Nature), three total successes weaken the guardian.
- Broken moonstone pillars provide half cover and can be toppled with a DC 13 Strength check, creating a 10-foot line of difficult terrain.
- The embedded shard can be attacked directly: AC 15, 20 hit points, immune to poison and psychic; a creature within 5 feet of the treant is exposed to a burst of radiant splinters on a hit.
