NPC Goal
The guardian echoes want the party to face the price of their choices before they entrust them with greater power.
Leverage
The echoes want proof the party can name the cost of power without dressing up their choices.
Player Approaches
- A character may ask the statues what harm their choice caused; answer plainly, but reveal no private details for them.
- A character may pass their turn to answer; the clock does not advance.
- A character may change an answer after hearing another character's account.
NPC Gambits
- Persuasion DC 13: explain how the choice protected someone without denying its cost.
- Insight DC 13: recognize when an echo is asking about responsibility, not guilt.
- Religion or History DC 13: recall that the protectors judged choices by what they prevented and what they risked.
NPC Reactions
- A candid answer stills the water; the speaker's reflection nods once.
- An answer that admits uncertainty earns a follow-up question, not a failure.
- A boastful or evasive answer makes a statue's weapon rise and point at the speaker.
