Heart of the Forge
Read Aloud
Blue-white heat bursts from the runic vents as a stone warden tears itself free beneath the suspended crystal. Three smaller shards skitter across the bridges, cutting off the exposed anchor-runes. The chamber groans, and the starsteel channels flare brighter with every step the guardian takes.

Battlefield Zones
1
The Warden’s Ring
The Warden’s Ring: a 30-foot circle beneath the suspended soul-anchor crystal, crossed by glowing starsteel channels.
2
The Rune Bridges
Three narrow stone bridges cross the rubble toward the anchor-runes; each bridge is 5 feet wide and 25 feet long.
3
The Rubble Bed
Waist-deep rubble fills the chamber edge; movement costs double, and a creature that falls here is restrained until it uses an action to escape with a DC 13 Athletics check.
Terrain Levers
- Disable one exposed anchor-rune with an action: DC 15 Arcana, Investigation, or thieves’ tools.
- A runic vent erupts when struck or disturbed: creatures within 10 feet make a DC 15 Dexterity save or take 10 (3d6) fire damage and fall prone.
- A creature can shove rubble into a starsteel channel, sealing it until cleared with an action and a DC 14 Athletics check.
- A narrow bridge collapses after taking 15 damage, dropping creatures into waist-deep rubble and costing 10 feet of movement to escape.
