Appearance
Krestak is a weather-darkened man whose skin has the dry, polished texture of old teak on his forearms and the soft, pale creases of someone who spends long hours under soaked cloth. He moves with a slow, loose-kneed sway that suddenly tightens into startling stillness whenever he notices danger. His hands are broad and permanently stained green around the nails from plant toxins and bow resin. He keeps his beard clipped into two short wedges beneath his jaw, while the hair above his ears is shaved close and the crown is bound with red jungle thread. His most unsettling feature is his smile, which is warm, patient, and almost fatherly even when he is describing how much a person is worth dead. He smells faintly of wet rope, bitter herbs, and cinnamon. Despite his brutal profession, he carefully oils one small silver buckle each morning until it shines like a mirror.
“His voice is low, dry, and carefully paced, with the soft clipped vowels of the Vardos Basin. He speaks as though every sentence has already been priced.”

Distinguishing Features
Green plant stains permanently darken the skin around his fingernails.
His silver belt buckle is obsessively polished despite the rest of his equipment being patched and mud-marked.
He carries a string of tiny carved bone tokens, each representing a bounty he chose not to complete.
A strip of red jungle thread is braided into his beard and replaced whenever it becomes wet.
He can remain utterly still for so long that insects land on his shoulders.
Voice
“A husky baritone with a patient rasp, like wet wood dragged over stone. He becomes almost gentle when discussing prices and frighteningly cheerful when discussing consequences.”
Clothing
He wears a faded indigo hunting coat cut too short at the wrists, patched with waxed palm fiber and stitched in several shades of thread. Beneath it is a sleeveless scale vest made from overlapping river-shell plates and small bronze discs. His trousers are wrapped tightly below the knee to keep leeches out, and his boots are soft-soled, split-toed, and repeatedly repaired with fish skin. A red cord around his waist holds contracts, lockpicks, dried fruit, and a single immaculate silver buckle inherited from his mother.
Body Language
He keeps his elbows close, his shoulders slightly rounded, and his weight balanced over the balls of his feet. He rarely points with a finger, preferring to indicate people with the tilt of his chin. When lying, he becomes perfectly motionless except for his left thumb rubbing the silver buckle at his belt.
