Vaushen Szel
Rogue, Thief
Vaushen Szel
Species
Tiefling
Appearance
Vaushen carries himself like a man perpetually listening for footsteps behind him. His skin has the matte, wine-red texture of dried clay, roughened at the knuckles and polished smooth along the palms by years of handling coins, knives, and wet rope. Two swept-back horns emerge from his brow and have been wrapped in faded blue thread, each knot marking a debt he has survived. His tail moves with deliberate economy, curling around chair legs when he is seated and tapping once against the floor when he lies. He is handsome in a worn, sleepless way, with a broad, almost gentle smile that appears most often while he is threatening someone. Despite his lean, furtive profession, he has the heavy shoulders and careful balance of a former dock laborer.
“His speech is low, warm, and carefully paced, with a faint sibilant lilt. He draws breath through his teeth before difficult names and softens threats until they sound like courteous advice.”

Distinguishing Features
Blue thread is knotted around both horns, with one knot added for every serious debt he has survived.
His tail taps exactly once against a hard surface whenever he makes a promise.
His palms smell faintly of clove oil, iron, and marsh water from the substances he uses to preserve stolen goods.
He keeps a small brass bell sewn inside his coat, but it has no clapper and makes no sound.
He smiles warmly when delivering threats, yet looks genuinely embarrassed when receiving praise.
Voice
“A smoky tenor with a soft rasp beneath it, like dry reeds rubbing together in the wind”
Clothing
A dark russet leather coat cut short for movement, layered over a sleeveless charcoal shirt and a narrow, salt-stained waist sash. His boots are soft-soled and patched with eel skin. He wears several mismatched gloves, each missing a different fingertip, allowing him to handle coins, locks, and blades without losing tactile sensitivity.
Body Language
Vaushen leans slightly toward whoever is speaking, as though sharing a confidence, while his eyes measure hands, belts, and doorways. His fingers constantly smooth the blue thread around one horn. When he is angry, he becomes very still except for the tip of his tail, which traces slow circles behind him.
