Brother Caedran Holt
Species
Dwarf
Appearance
Brother Caedran Holt is a broad, weathered dwarf with the compact strength of someone accustomed to lifting coffins, stone tablets, and frightened people. His beard is cut short at the jaw but left long beneath the chin, forming a square russet-gray wedge threaded with black cord and tiny iron tally rings. He walks with his left shoulder slightly advanced, as though perpetually making room for someone beside him, and he turns his whole body before looking directly at a speaker. His eyes rarely rest on faces. They track hands, doorways, witnesses, and exits, giving every conversation the feeling of a quiet inspection. His hands are heavily callused, yet he handles funeral cloth, cracked pottery, and injured birds with startling delicacy. The unexpected contradiction is his laugh, which is sudden, bright, and almost boyish, completely at odds with his grave work and rain-dark surroundings.
“Low, deliberate, and textured by a dry rasp. Caedran speaks slowly enough that silence becomes part of his sentences.”

Distinguishing Features
Three iron tally rings woven into the lower edge of his beard
A left-shoulder-forward gait that makes him seem to walk beside an invisible companion
A white funerary sash with three red stitches, each representing a witness who must be present before a disputed burial
Hands that smell faintly of cedar oil, lamp smoke, and old stone
He turns his entire body toward speakers instead of merely turning his head
Voice
“A low baritone with a dry stone-rub rasp, softened by careful pauses and the occasional warm lift of humor.”
Clothing
A soot-brown clerical coat beneath a patched charcoal cloak, layered over medium steel armor engraved with names rather than heraldry. He wears a rain-dark wool cap, heavy mud-caked boots, a copper oath-stone pendant, and a white funerary sash marked with three vertical red stitches.
Body Language
Caedran angles his body toward the nearest vulnerable person, keeps one hand near his shield strap, and frequently touches doorframes before entering. In anger he becomes unnervingly still. In grief he becomes practical, folding cloth, sweeping floors, and arranging objects into exact rows.
