Sable Orin
Occult Investigator
Sable Orin
Species
Elf
Appearance
Sable is a tall, rain-thin elf whose stillness seems practiced rather than natural. Their umber skin has a faint claylike matte texture from years of handling preservation powders, while their long fingers are permanently darkened at the cuticles with archival ink and silver nitrate. Their hair is shaved close on one side and gathered on the other into a dense rope of black curls threaded with tiny bone tags, each tag bearing a catalog number. They move with careful, economical precision, but when startled they become startlingly quick, snapping from quiet repose into a low, predatory crouch. The contradiction is immediate: their severe conservator's grooming is interrupted by one bright yellow ribbon tied around their wrist, frayed, childish, and lovingly retied every morning.
“Measured and low, with careful pauses before names. Sable speaks as though setting fragile objects on a shelf.”

Distinguishing Features
Ink-blackened fingertips and silver-stained cuticles from a lifetime of relic conservation.
A rope of catalog-tagged black curls gathered over one side of the head.
A bright, frayed yellow ribbon tied around the wrist with obsessive daily care.
A silver-headed cane whose handle is shaped like a closed eye, polished smooth by constant use.
Their scent is rainwater, bitter orange peel, and old paper.
Voice
“A low, dry contralto with a faint rasp from archival dust and long nights spent speaking quietly in sealed rooms.”
Clothing
A charcoal field coat waxed against rain, high-collared and reinforced with hidden leather panels. Beneath it is a faded saffron waistcoat, practical dark trousers, and soft-soled expedition boots. Their belt holds labeled specimen tubes, sealing cord, chalk, a folding magnifier, and a brass shrine token. The yellow wrist ribbon is the only item with no catalog number.
Body Language
Sable keeps their hands folded over the head of their cane, thumbs rubbing the same smooth groove in the silver. Their head tilts slightly when listening, like someone aligning a damaged page. They rarely blink during testimony, but blink rapidly when someone mentions children, fire, or the phrase 'nothing happened.'
