Species

Appearance
Ghariba stands upright with the loose balance of someone accustomed to rooftops, narrow ledges, and crowded alleys. She is slim and athletic, with long wrists, compact shoulders, and a restless left foot that taps whenever she is forced to stand still. Her hands are the first thing most people notice: broad across the knuckles, permanently darkened by ink, lamp soot, and old dye, with fingertips polished smooth from years of handling coins, thread, and hidden catches. Her face is lively rather than conventionally delicate, framed by a blunt fall of black hair that curls outward at the jaw as if it resents being combed. Her expression is sly and playful, but her posture becomes unnervingly motionless when she is frightened. The unexpected contradiction is that she dresses like a practical alley thief yet carries herself with the careful dignity of a minor court official.
“Her voice is quick, low, and bright at the edges, with a dry Levantine cadence softened by clipped dockside slang. She speaks as though every sentence has a hidden second meaning, then occasionally says something startlingly plain.”

Distinguishing Features
Her soot-darkened fingertips and ink-stained knuckles make her hands look permanently gloved.
She walks with a subtle leftward drift, as though avoiding an invisible puddle.
A tiny brass button is sewn beneath her lower lip on a cord, used as a private good-luck charm.
Her black hair curls outward at the jaw in two stubborn hooks despite careful grooming.
She can stand completely motionless when alarmed, creating a striking contrast with her usual restless movement.
Voice
“A quick, warm contralto with a teasing rhythm, usually amused even when discussing danger. Her laughter is a short burst through the nose. When she is genuinely afraid, her voice becomes flat and formal.”
Clothing
A charcoal wool vest over a tan linen shirt, layered beneath a short umber coat with many hidden inner pockets. Her trousers are dark brown and reinforced at the knees. A faded black scarf is wrapped twice around her neck and tucked into the vest. She wears soft-soled leather shoes, one repaired with visible red thread, and a narrow belt carrying pouches, chalk, cord, and a folding knife.
Body Language
She favors her left side when turning, keeps her elbows close in crowds, and rarely walks in a straight line unless she wants to appear harmless. Her fingers constantly pinch, fold, or straighten nearby objects. When she trusts someone, she leans close enough to inspect their hands. When she lies about something important, she becomes perfectly still.
