Ilyana Vargel
Monk, Way of the Umbra
Ilyana Vargel
Species
Elf, wood elf
Appearance
An upright, slim young elf who stands with her weight slightly forward, as if every conversation might become a dance. Her movements are smooth but never languid. She turns by pivoting on the balls of her feet, keeping her shoulders loose and her hands almost theatrically visible. Her skin has the dry satin texture of someone who travels beneath hard sun and cold mountain wind, while her palms are roughened by staff drills and climbing rope. Her expression is playful, with a half-smile that suggests either a private joke or a dangerous invitation. The unexpected contradiction is that her elegant face and flirtatious posture conceal a fussy, practical neatness: she cannot tolerate a crooked buckle, loose thread, or cup placed too near an edge.
“Her voice is low, musical, and slightly husky, with precise consonants softened by long vowels. She speaks quickly when improvising and slowly when making a threat.”

Distinguishing Features
A narrow silver chain loops from her left ear to a collar clasp, decorated with a tiny brass wagon wheel.
The soles of her boots are worn more heavily on the outer edges from years of sideways footwork.
Her fingertips are permanently darkened by charcoal and lampblack despite frequent washing.
She smiles with one canine slightly more visible than the other, giving her expression a mischievous, foxlike cast.
Three silent bells are sewn into her sash, and she touches them whenever someone mentions betrayal.
Voice
“A warm contralto with a teasing rasp, like silk dragged over a whetstone”
Clothing
A close-fitting charcoal wrap coat over layered grey linen, secured with dull silver toggles. Her sleeves stop just below the elbows, exposing callused forearms, and her trousers are wrapped at the calves for silent movement. A broad black sash holds her staff cord, a pouch of charcoal dust, and three tiny bells with their clappers removed. Her soft boots are patched with mismatched leather, one brown and one black.
Body Language
She keeps her spine straight and her chin slightly lowered, giving the impression of attentive amusement. Her fingers constantly test the balance of nearby objects. When lying, she becomes unusually graceful and holds eye contact too long. When telling the truth about something painful, she looks at the floor and rubs the edge of her thumb against her palm.
