Appearance
Wishtowen is an elderly male gnome with a bald crown surrounded by wispy white hair that curls damply at the sides and back. Thick white brows shade green-gray eyes that remain alert even when his body seems tired. His long prominent nose gives his weathered face a patient, avian cast, while a short white beard and heavy sideburns frame a mouth usually pinched in evaluation. His large pointed ears are crowded with tiny seed pods tied on linen cords. He moves with a stoop and a measured, rootlike patience, placing each foot as though testing whether the ground deserves his weight. The unexpected contradiction is his hands: broad, scar-free, and meticulously clean, with each fingernail trimmed and polished despite the soil packed into the seams of his clothing. He leaves an impression of a neglected hedge that somehow maintains perfect records.
“His voice is low, dry, and deliberate, with the patient rhythm of someone measuring grain into a jar. He speaks plainly, using short practical sentences and few superlatives.”

Distinguishing Features
Seed pods and nuts tied into his beard, cuffs, and large pointed ears.
Perfectly trimmed and clean fingernails contrasting with his patched, soil-stained clothes.
A green scarf marked by tiny, hand-stitched symbols for frost, mold, germination, and first thaw.
He pauses before sitting, checking the floor for spilled grain, loose nails, or damp rot.
His shadow is often surrounded by a faint scatter of husks and dry leaves, even indoors.
Voice
“A low, dry elder's voice, steady as a hand sorting seed. He gives greater emphasis to words about quantity, timing, and waste than to names or titles.”
Clothing
Patched brown, gray, and olive woodland clothing layered for damp weather. His coat has reinforced elbow patches, inner seed pockets, and a hem weighted with tiny wooden tags. A faded green scarf is wrapped twice around his neck and tucked under one shoulder. Seed, nut, and pod ornaments hang from his ears, belt, cuffs, and beard ties, each marking a plant, season, or storage concern.
Body Language
Wishtowen takes up more space than his height suggests by arranging objects around himself into orderly working circles. He leans close when examining a thing, then withdraws abruptly when someone expresses sentiment he considers premature. His thumb rubs the edge of a seed pouch whenever he is deciding whether to trust someone. He often stands with one hand behind his back, as though concealing a second opinion.
