Commoner and Faction Clerk
Chaska Quispe
Species
Human
Appearance
A compact, broad-shouldered human with copper-brown skin and a face made striking by its stillness rather than beauty. Chaska moves with a deliberate half-step, favoring the left side as though always making room for someone unseen. Their black hair is braided close to the scalp on one side and left in a thick, uneven fall on the other, usually dusted with gray stove ash. They wear a brass tally ring on the index finger of their right hand, its underside polished bright from years of rubbing it while thinking. The unexpected contradiction is their immaculate hands: despite working around kitchens, furnaces, and coal stores, their nails are clean and carefully squared, while the rest of them perpetually smells of smoke, orange peel, and wet wool. Meeting them leaves the impression of being quietly measured, weighed, and perhaps forgiven.
“Low, measured, and conversational, with clipped phrasing when suspicious. Chaska's voice softens around frightened people and becomes unnaturally courteous when angry.”

Distinguishing Features
A brass tally ring worn smooth on its underside from constant rubbing.
A habitual half-step to the left, as though making space for an invisible companion.
Hair braided on one side and loose on the other, with permanent gray ash caught near the roots.
A faint scent of smoke, orange peel, and rain-soaked wool.
An immaculate set of fingernails that contrasts sharply with their soot-marked clothing.
Voice
“A low contralto with a dry warmth, like a kettle beginning to sing. Every sentence sounds carefully placed, but unexpected humor often slips through at the end.”
Clothing
A soot-brown wool vest over a rust-red linen shirt, patched charcoal trousers, soft leather shoes, and a faded woven sash patterned with tiny stepped mountains. A heavy apron hangs from the waist, its pockets full of chalk, keys, string, and folded scraps of paper.
Body Language
Usually stands nearly motionless with both hands folded over the brass tally ring. When deciding whether to trust someone, they tilt their head slightly left and rub the ring's worn underside. In danger, they angle their body toward the nearest exit while pretending to focus on the speaker.
