Voice

Her voice has the slight rasp of someone used to calling cues over drums and ship engines. It carries well without sounding theatrical; when she is tired, a dry catch roughens the ends of sentences. Her laugh is a quick burst she seems surprised to have made.

Her Basic is clear and carefully paced, shaped by years of projecting over music and crowd noise. She clips instructions when danger is close, but lets vowels stretch into a wry drawl when she is teasing someone she trusts.

Speech patterns

Uses short, concrete questions to establish whether a stranger is safe.
Describes danger as practical details: which hinge sticks, which guard limps, which corridor smells of fuel.
When she trusts someone, uses dry humor and gives them a small nickname based on something they did.
Repeats a promise back as a question, testing whether the speaker understands its cost.

How to play them

Begin with practical questions and let her decide how much to disclose. A clear offer of help for all prisoners earns more trust than a promise to rescue her alone. Do not touch her lekku or restraints without asking. If the group cannot help, she may still trade useful knowledge for a promise to carry word to her family.

Goal

Get herself and the other prisoners out alive, then find out whether Nima and Pavo are safe.

Motivation

Turn the skills she learned to entertain wealthy strangers into tools for getting vulnerable people out of their reach.

Appearance

Eshka sits barefoot on the dungeon bench with the precise, folded posture of a dancer resting between performances. Her weight settles forward over the balls of her feet, ready to stand despite the chains. Her rubis-red skin has a satin sheen across the cheekbones and a dry, weather-roughened texture at the knuckles and heels. Two deep-red lekku, darker at their roots, drape over one shoulder; small brass rings climb one of them. Amber eyes flecked with copper keep measuring whoever enters. She has no external ears. Her nails are painted sapphire and capped with tiny blunt spikes, while her dusty soles and ankle shackles spoil the elegance of her old stage finery. Unexpectedly, she keeps a tiny, neatly folded paper bird tucked into her hair wrapping, treating it with the care of a treasured jewel.

Clothing

A torn remnant of a once-pristine dancer's outfit: a rough cropped top, sapphire performance wraps, and a translucent, ripped sarong secured with ornate brass clasps. She wears a carved collar, stacked bangles, upper-arm bands, and toe rings. Heavy engraved shackles circle both ankles; their long chains coil across the stone floor and tether her to a wall ring.

Body language

She rests as if conserving energy, shoulders loose and spine poised, but her feet remain planted for a quick rise. When someone speaks honestly, she leans forward. When someone makes a promise too easily, she tilts her head and watches their hands.

Distinguishing features

Deep-red lekku with tiny brass rings climbing one side.

Personality

14 traits and drives

Eshka is generous with frightened people but guarded with anyone who holds power. In a crisis she becomes brisk and observant, reducing fear to a sequence of tasks; once safe, she can be playful and unexpectedly sentimental. She wants to believe that people can choose decency, yet distrusts grand gestures and resents being treated as a symbol of someone else's virtue.

Alignment
Not applicable as a formal Star Wars D6 statistic; compassionate but distrustful, and willing to deceive captors to protect other prisoners.

Quirks

Counts corridor footsteps under her breath, but silently taps the final number against her thigh.
Folds scraps of paper into tiny birds and gives them names based on the last sound heard nearby.
Turns one brass ring on her lekku whenever she is deciding whether to trust someone.
Arranges loose objects into a straight line before she will eat or sleep.
Says 'Again, but honest this time' when someone changes a story.

Habits

Counts footsteps and pauses in the corridor, memorizing guard rotations.
Watches hands before faces, especially when someone approaches the cell.
When frightened, turns a bead or brass ring on her lekku rather than looking away.
Offers practical information to anyone who shows genuine concern for another prisoner.

Traits · 4

Protective of the vulnerable, but reluctant to let anyone protect her.
Quick to improvise, slow to trust.
Dryly funny when the immediate danger has passed.
Proud of her craft, though ashamed that it once helped wealthy captors feel entertained.

Flaws · 3

Takes responsibility for other people's danger even when doing so makes a rescue harder.
Assumes kindness may be bait until it has been demonstrated repeatedly.
Can become so focused on finding an opening that she misses the emotional cost of asking others to take risks.

Fears · 3

That her family will be punished for trying to find her.
That the other prisoners will be sold or moved before she can help them escape.
That captivity will teach her to stop caring who gets left behind.

Wants and needs · 4

A chance to escape without abandoning the other prisoners.
News of Nima and Pavo.
The shackles removed by someone she trusts, not simply a change of captor.
A safe way to pass her copied evidence to people who can act on it.

Combat

HP 0 · Unshackled, ordinary walking pace; currently severely restricted by the tether. No numeric movement rate assigned.

Eshka is a prisoner, not a combatant built for a fair fight. She uses a thrown object, a sudden strike, or a staged stumble to break an opponent's rhythm, then moves toward an exit or another prisoner. She will not attack someone who is helping her unless they threaten another captive. If escape is impossible, she tries to bargain for time.

Actions

Desperate Strike. Dexterity 3D; brawling 2D+2. A quick shove, knee, or heel strike meant to create space rather than injure. She avoids grappling when possible.
Distracting Throw. Perception 3D; thrown improvised object 3D+1. Hurls a cup, loose stone, or other nearby object to distract a pursuer and make an escape opening.

Reactions

Signal the Opening. Perception 3D. If a nearby guard is distracted or a door is briefly unobserved, she signals a fellow captive to move or calls attention toward a safer route. This creates an opportunity, not an automatic escape.

Rewards they can give

Reliable observations of guard habits and the holding site's layout.

Background

Eshka was raised among traveling performers who worked the small stages and cargo-deck taprooms of the Mid Rim. Her mother, Nima, taught her footwork and how to read a room before the music began; her older cousin, Pavo, handled costumes and repairs. Eshka learned to make an audience look where she wanted, then to notice what they were trying not to show. During a performance on a private pleasure yacht, she witnessed a patron quietly arranging the transfer of several indentured workers to a more brutal employer. She stole a set of access codes and helped two captives reach an escape pod. The pod was found, and Eshka was taken in their place after falsely claiming she had acted alone. Her captors now keep her in a holding dungeon beneath a disused entertainment house, dressed in remnants of her dancer outfit and chained to a wall ring. The formative escape changed her: she no longer mistakes a graceful performance for safety, but still believes that a well-timed distraction can save a life. She worries that Pavo has been arrested while searching for her and that Nima will risk herself trying to bargain for her release.

Role in the story

A capable, exhausted prisoner whose knowledge can expose a trafficking route. She is a person with her own choices and priorities, not a reward or a helpless prop; she may ask the party to help the other captives before attempting her own escape.

“Her mother, Nima, taught her footwork and how to read a room before the music began; her older cousin, Pavo, handled costumes and repairs.”
